I chose moissanite because of the price and how extremely closely it resembles a diamond IMO. I’m waiting on my moissanite to be set in a custom setting now, but I don’t plan to tell people it isn’t a diamond. I never thought it would be so close, but, after spending a lot of time comparing my 3ct moissanite to diamonds of similar size and color (2.5-3ct; H-J color), I can say honestly it is extremely hard to tell the difference. I think it would be impossible to know for sure if they weren’t side by side.

I knew I wanted a large stone, and I was planning on getting a diamond. I’ve always thought they were extremely overpriced, but I still wanted one (societal conditioning I guess). I saw moissanite before I bought one, and I was curious. I ordered one just to see, and I was shocked by how much I liked it. I researched the other important stats on moissanite (durability, reviews, etc.), and found nothing but positive information. After this and seeing it IRL, I couldn’t imagine still spending all that money for something that looked virtually the exact same and no one IRL would ever know the difference between.

I didn’t really consider the ethical/environmental issues when I made my choice, so that was just a bonus for me. I ended up with a 3.5ct instead of 3ct (long story), and it was less than a tenth of what it would have cost for a diamond of a similar size. I’m so glad we chose moissanite because I’m getting my dream ring and we can put that money towards something else. Like others have mentioned, it’s like having your cake and eating it too.

@StefLovesJamie:  Sorry to ask this on your thread but im curious if any of the bees got thier ring appraised? And if so, how much was the appraisal? I read on moissaniteCO, that some girls got thier rings appraised for 10K and up! Obviously jewelers thought it was a diamond, but Ive heard that was a common mistake — anyone else experience that?

The diamond and I broke up yesterday, I just wrote about it!

But goodness no, I’m the opposite of an eco-friendly girl. I’m probably closer to an eco-hazard, to be honest.

For me, it was because Fiance makes a lot of money, and I’m still a student. I just felt guilty accepting such an expensive gift from him.

I would say all of those reasons, plus Moissy has a lot more fire! I think that diamonds are waaaaay overpriced.
