I had a lot of questions/curiosities during this process of buying my (hopefully) future fiance an e-ring. So I’ll answer them here in case some other confused guy wanders in someday with the same questions, along with an image of the ring and it’s identifier.

Source: MoissaniteCo

Model #eng030

Center Stone: Round 6.5mm/1.0ct
Center Color: Colorless
Moissanite Type: Forever One
Metal Type: 14K White Gold
Prong Style: 4 Prong
Ring Size: 5.25
Sidestone Type: Diamond (SI,F)

Order timeframe:

Ordered on Jan 12, 2016. Jan 13 it goes into production (a). Jan 15 it goes to production (b). Ready to ship on Jan 21. Shipped via fedex from Las Vegas on Jan 21. Arrived in Canada on Jan 25.

Custom Duties and taxes for importing the ring into Canada: MoissaniteCo, *ahem*, was kind enough to fudge the value a bit. The $CAD1500 ring was taxed for $28. I won’t say how much fudging was involved, but you can do the math – it was substantial, and saved me $$$.

The ring itself is really nice. There is 1 small imperfection I can see under a magnifying glass – underneath the prongs there is a tiny bit of excess gold lumped in there. I’m sure a jewler could remove it, but its honestly invisble to the naked eye. I’ll update as far as loose stones, or other failures as they come up.

Image quality is a bit poor. Picture was in a rush in the bathroom while my girlfriend was wondering what the heck the package was!

This was made by Schubach’s, but it’s the same setting as eng525.  It’s a 2.5ct equivalent (9x7mm) Forever Brilliant emerald cut.

@KYbridetobe  This is my absolute favourite ring!!! I love how dainty the thin band is, and how timeless the ring looks. You are a lucky girl!

@swordth  I’m also a Canadian bee and that ring, especially the twisted band looks gorgeous! Thanks for providing all the information, I’m sure my bf will be super happy with the customs fudging.

I’m looking at rings on moissaniteco.com but I’m worried that the ring will one day need fixing or cleaning and I can’t find a local jewellers that works with moissanite. Were you able to find someone local or are you planning to return it to the States if a problem arises (knock on wood it doesn’t!)?

I just got a MoissaniteCo ring, style #wed109, with a 2 carat Forever One stone, ring size 4.75! I really love it. The setting is gorgeous and very sparkly, I was so worried about it!

The last picture is a comparison with my new stone and my old set, and you can see the side profile view as well in this one 🙂

@floranfauna

I don’t plan on sending it back to the USA – the shipping, time, and expense is just too much of a hassle. I’ve talked to 2 goldsmiths here, in a pretty smalltown area, who knew about moissanite. I didn’t get the impression from them that they would refuse working with it. Setting a stone in a gold ring can’t be all that much different between stones?

@aranel1002  what a beautiful ring! I like the 6 prong! I always thought I was a 4 prong girl but I am starting to love 6 prong.

@swordth  Ahh, I see. I forgot to mention that I’m going with palladium instead of gold, which I hear is a relatively new metal and is harder to repair. But all in all, it shouldn’t be too bad, sending it back shouldn’t be a problem : )
