There are other diamond alternatives.  Even the Moissanite stones are synthetics of their own chemical makeup because ACTUAL Moissanite is EXTREMELY rare.

I know Miss Tattoo mentioned Asha Diamonds – and you can get side stones as real diamonds as part of the options there.

Diamond Nexus Labs – however, I have to say, I haven’t heard a whole bunch great about them.

I personlly have a Sitaragem and it is BEAUTIFUL.  They even have  Moissanite, CZ and diamond comparison page which I found helpful.  They are registered with the BBB and have a rating of an A.  Their customer service was absolutely fantastic.  I never went more than a few hours from hearing from them if I had a question.

I can only speak for them because I dealt with them.  Asha I did too, but they took 3 days to answer 1 email, by then I had already ordered from Sitaragem.

I think Moissanite is beautiful, and I am sure there are reputable dealers in your area that aren’t actually online.

Can I just ask, how can sitaragem compare itself with a CZ when it IS a CZ?

Anyway, it IS true that better ratings are available to members of the better business bureau. Their points system that they use to determine the letter grades includes additional points if you are a member. In fact, just this week they announced that they are “reviewing” their ratings system under pressure from the Attorney General in Connecticut with regard to the unfairness of their “pay to play” system.

There was a recent expose piece done by ABC News in which they registered several businesses, all of which were given no rating until they became dues paying members (for fees ranging from $425 to several thousand dollars) at which time all were issued A or A+ ratings despite no consumer input of any kind.

@Belle2Be: Lol it’s not like it’s expensive to keep a website up.

I would go to the better than diamond forums and lurk there for a while. I did, and after seeing tons of real pictures from real people and tons of unbiased, positive reviews, I am confident in moissaniteco.com and that is where I will be buying my moissy from. They are the only ones who offer enhanced moissanite, and since I am interested in getting the whitest moissy possible, that finished the sale for me.

@figment: If you read the comparison it points out several differences between a Sitaragem diamond alternative and simple CZ.  Just like diamonds, there are higher end CZ’s and lower end.

Fiance and I bought the ring from Ashadiamonds.com (owned by the same company as moissaniteco.com), and it was nothing but pleasurable. The company has been really easy to work with, they send tons of information about your stone and their warranties, and it all feels very legit. We never once got the ‘seedy’ feeling from the process.

I hope this helps anyone else looking into buying from them!

@Belle2Be: Nothing but negative reviews?? I find that really hard to believe, unless you were specifically searching for negatives and putting on blinders when any positives came up. When a company does as much business as MoissaniteCo, obviously there are going to be some disatisfied customers. You can’t please everyone.

I did extensive reading about moissanite before Fiance made the purchase. Negative reviews were definitely the exception. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, and on weddingbee alone there are plenty of positive reviews – including mine. I LOVE my MoissaniteCo e-ring, and my stone is absolutely gorgeous. It looks nothing like the one on that crappy website you linked to. Oh, and it costs all of $30 a year to register a domain. It’s not rocket science to design a basic page yourself, I taught myself how to do it when I was 13. Seriously, I made a website about the X-Files and the Backstreet Boys. It was rockin.

What also makes me suspicious is that person posts only one photo of the ring, and anyone who knows anything about photography can tell that it’s a horrible photo. The color balance is completely skewed. They obviously photographed it under the most unflattering, dim yellow light they could find. I could make my ring look that crappy too if I wanted to. Sorry, but I don’t take that website seriously at all, especially considering all the gorgeous photos that people have posted of their own moissanite, and actually having a moissanite on my own finger that I’ve observed in every possible kind of lighting.

And yes, I read the so called “jerking around” emails that were posted up. I don’t see anything there that was blatantly unreasonable by MoissaniteCo, just a customer who is inexperienced with online purchasing and who had unrealistic expectations. I’ve been making online purchases for over ten years and that all looks pretty run of the mill to me, including the restocking fee.

I’ve already recommended MoissaniteCo to my friends and will continue to do so here on weddingbee.

I have heard on news reports that you do have to be a member of BBB to get an A rating (it was actually an ABC news report a few weeks back). My engagement ring is from Moissanite Co and I couldn’t have been more impressed with their customer service and quality of product. My ring is beautiful! I have purchased insurance on it so that if I lose my stone, my insurance will pay to replace it, no big deal, it was just added to my homeowner’s policy. While I never called them so I didn’t even notice no phone number, I used the live chat feature with great success and emailed them several times with quick replies each time. While Moissanite may not be for everyone, I just want to make sure that people who have actually dealt with this company have their voices heard. It’s a great place to buy jewelry from and I am planning on purchasing my wedding bands from them (already picked out!). Also, in regards to sizing, they will send you a free ring sizer (I have one from them) if you want to make sure it is consistent with their sizings.

I realize I have never posted here, but I read quite often (and also on BTD) because I love love love rings.   I have ordered twice from MoissaniteCo and they do indeed have nice, high quality jewelry.  The moissanite itself is stunning and looks nothing like a cheap cz.   They have a lot of settings that I’ve only seen with high end jewelers.  I’ve been very pleased with my purchases and their rewards program is great.  However…their return policy is not that great.  If you order from them, please read the fine print very very carefully!!!  Yes they accept some returns, but they have many stipulations on it.  Certain sizes are non-returnable because they are considered “custom” orders.   Eternity rings, non-returnable.   Period.  I ordered one from them recently and the stones were not set correctly.  My only option from them is to have it re-made.  No return, no store credit, nothing (and this is within the 30 day period).  I’m eating the cost and keeping it anyway, I should have read the fine print more carefully.  But I won’t order from them again, despite their beautiful rings, because I can’t be assured of a 100% guaranteed return if something is wrong.   Any other jeweler would take it back with a receipt, no questions asked.

I spoke to someone in customer service and was told it could only be remade.  I am still trying to correspond with them regarding any other options.  Since the stones are not set correctly, I could have it remade…but with shipping times, processing time, etc, I don’t feel it’s worth it.  It was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my 10th anniversary.   I’m disappointed and a little bitter (at myself, not them).  I’d rather just have a plain band now and be done with it.

@gam: Hmmm, I feel like it’s not right of them to apply the no-refund policy in this case. I understand that the vendor needs to protect itself from people who are just fickle and want a refund because they’ve changed their minds, but when it’s the vendor’s screw-up then that’s pretty crappy of them not to acknowledge their fault.

Did you try sending pictures of the incorrectly set stones to Mike? Post them up in the betterthandiamond.com message boards and see what Mike or Jera has to say.

Hello,

Just to notify all, particularly fellow Canucks. This company is SUPER SKETCH. They do not provide phone number. Nor do they have real customer support (unless you count seemingly illiterate robots who cant recognize “FedEx” in convo). Our ring, paid IN FULL, plus with DUTY PAID, was not cleared and not shipped to us in Canada. Moissaniteco Customer support refused to assist, blamed all on everyone but themselves, and refused to provide a phone number. The product quality? who knows…its being held as a fully paid package with Customs, no thanks to Moissaniteco.com and FedEx. Incredibly disappointed and out close to 3K. STRONGLY DISCOURAGE purchasing from this company! Basically, we just lost three K. Disgraceful.
