@mncrk09: No one is getting bent out of shape. It’s just kinda hard to believe someone created an account “diamondsR4Ever” and the first post they commented on was this. THIS is why someone else called her out:

I find it’s best to educate yourself on tools used to detect diamonds before speaking out.  And why would you get a stone that will not increase in value appraised?  What you paid is what it’s value is.

    and

Wouldn’t fool anyone in the diamond district, honey

That’s pretty snarky IMO. Plus, if this person is such an expert in the diamond district, they would know diamonds DO NOT increase in value and many people DO NOT buy them at their face value. A 1ct Leo diamond will run you $6000 at Kays, but once you take it out of the store it goes back to it’s face value. Do you ever wonder why no one can sell their diamond for what they bought it for or more? You shouldn’t buy a diamond to diversify your portfolio or hope to fall back on it when an emergency comes up.

The only way your diamond is going to be a safe investement is if you purchase collectable diamonds that serious collectors go after. You are not going to find these gems in a mall store.

@Miss Tattoo: Thanks.  Honestly I can’t tell the difference myself from those pics.  They’re both very nice.

Well here is a more recent article.  The ratio isn’t 9 out of 10 but it is more than 6 out of 10.

By the way, I don’t believe DiamondsR4ever said anything about diamonds gaining value.

@mncrk09: She asked Miss Tattoo why she would get a stone that will not increase in value appraised, and stated that Miss Tattoo’s moissanite is worth only what she paid for it. The obvious implication is that diamonds get appraised because they do increase in value, while moissanites dont.

If you read a few moissanite threads, you’ll see it’s not unusual for misinformed people to jump in and say that unlike moissanites, their diamonds are increasing in value, are an “investment,” etc. It’s a really common misconception that diamond owners have.

Anyway, looks like DiamondsR4ever’s posts and account have been deleted.

To me that sounds like diamonds do…or there is another stone out there that increases in value that I don’t know about.

Thank you for the updated article. I don’t know when that video was shot from ABC. I was going off of the clothes and hairstyles. And the video quality isn’t that great either. ^_^

ETA: Just finished the article. My jaw dropped at “Her 10-carat stone is made of a substance called moissanite”
I want to see a photo of that!

Also, the photo in the article…I can’t tell at first glance. Even after reading the caption, all three stones look the same in that photo.

@Miss Tattoo:  um yeah this is a direct quote from you post.  “It wasn’t an article. it was a ABC news special back in the 90’s I believe.”  Sorry but you did imply that she watched a dated video as opposed to reading an article.  Wink

Okay…so I’m just going to let this go. I wasn’t trying to be offensive and I’m not going to apologize. Someone always gets offended in these posts. If you want to pick my posts apart word for word and analyze what it means then by all means do so, but like I said, I wasn’t trying to be rude.

My .35 diamond from James Allen was $999 after taxes. E color, VS1 clarity, in a white gold band. They have a band with diamonds for the same price as my band but I chose to go with the classic solitaire. I love their prices.

I chose moissanite because I like its luster but I still think its possible to get a great value for a diamon if you know where to look.
