So my Boyfriend or Best Friend told me to start looking at rings, as he is planning to propose within the next year. I ADORE moissanite the more I look into them: the uniqueness from a diamond, conflict free, price, everything. I spoke to a local jeweller yesterday about the ring I want and got quoted a price. I want to know whether you guys think it is a fair price or not, as I don’t know much about moissanite!! HELP ME BEES! <3
7×5 (1 ct.) Oval Cut Moissanite similar to the picture bellow. They have quoted me at $2,200 (CAD) – so approx. $1,700 (US). Is this a good price? Or are they gouging me?

coraldee: price gouged for regular moissy in a common setting.I would contact moissanite.co or better than diamonds. The Forever One moissanite and Amora Gems (also mossanite) are the best and whitest diamond simulant.

I agree with PP. You can definitely find that same exact setting with a Forever Brilliant or Forever One oval for way less. I’d look at Moissaniteco. Here’s the very first result of their rings that that can be set with any shape of stone: https://www.moissaniteco.com/round-moissanite-diamond-engagement-ring-p-12587.html
It’s $800 dollars less!

That’s very high. You are definitely being gauged.

coraldee: that’s very high – you’re basically paying pricing similar to a natural sapphire…moissanite (even the amora gem and forever brilliants) are not that expensive.

Way too expensive! Moissaniteco has a bunch of settings very similar to that which can be set with an oval.
If you’re set on an oval moissanite, I would recommend you make sure to go with the Forever Brilliant. I think it’s standard now, but fancy cuts of moissanite show more color than a round brilliant. They also now offer Forever One which is a whiter stone. Personally I didn’t care for the F1 in an oval because I felt it looked almost bluish white. You can find comparison videos on YouTube though – you may prefer one over another.

WAY too much. My 2.2ct cushion forever one was $700 through my jeweler. I say go around to different jewelers for a more reasonable price or get your entire ring through moissaniteco. Definitely look at both forever brilliant and forever one to see which one you prefer more. Some people love the warmth and slight moodiness the brilliant while others are too color sensitive to it. Then there are people who find the forever one too white.

Etsy sellers really over charge for moissanite…as does moissanite.com. I would go with moissaniteco.com. Their prices are great and they also screen for cut…moissanite.com does not.

Moissyco would have a much better price! I actually saw a similar ring on their site (it does have a floating halo):
It’s around $1000 for FB and a couple hundred more for F1.
I personally like the FB better than F1 but I prefer a warmer stone and thought the F1 was “too white-ish blue.”

Definitely gouging you. This looks almost identical to my ring. I have a 1ct Forever Brilliant round center stone with all moissanite sidestones (sometimes they put DIAMONDS in as side stones, which defeats the purpose, in my opinion, but maybe this is what the jeweler was quoting?). My fiance got my whole set for $1,200. Here’s the link to my exact set: https://www.moissaniteco.com/round-forever-brilliant-moissanite-wedding-set-p-16664:60e6a3668b5800af6ce00124da2d14c1.html You could contact Moissaniteco to request an oval center stone instead. I’ve heard they’re very easy to work with.
Here’s a picture of my e-ring if that’s helpful:

We bought at Moissanite Co and had a great experience with a custom ring. Good price (less than $1K) and great final product.
