Diamond and moissanite look very similar overall. Check out this video: http://vimeo.com/24371182

Personally, I do not think that the minor differences between the two are worth thousands of more dollars. A 2ct diamond would cost you upwards of $30,000. A 2ct moissanite would cost you $970.

I have a moissanite and I love it! 🙂

I would suggest ordering a loose moissy to see it in person. Yeah, there will probably be a small restocking fee, but to me a small fee is worth it in the long run. Also go take a look at some loose diamonds when you have the chance. There are no real cons, they’re different stones. It also depends on your budget and what you’re comfortable spending. moissy ended up not being the route for me because I wanted a light yellow cushion and moissy didn’t offer the color I wanted and I didn’t care for the standard cut of their cushions. They’re pretty. But they just weren’t for me. I loved a more “ice” like cushion.

No matter what you’re gonna spend more on the diamond. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just like it’s not a bad thing if you choose to buy a porsche as opposed to a camry. But if you’re looking to save money a moissy is a great option.

@google:  I’m not 100% sure (as it is not my video), but I think the one on the left is the moissy. It sparkles more. 🙂

I must say, even though I have an Asha, and I’ll someday have Amora gem moissanite, if I could afford a 2 ct diamond (so $30-$45k) outright then HELL YEAH I’d get a diamond.  But most people do not have $45k to blow on a ring, so I guess the only person who really knows the answer to diamond vs. moissanite is you!

IMO, if you get it Amora-ized and beautifully set, the moissainte may just look better than the diamond.

The moissy has to be the one on the left. The fire is like little sparks, whereas the diamond is a broader flash of light when the light catches it. Also, the cut of the one on the right is that of a diamond.

@Soon2bMrsGski:  Asha is not moissanite. Asha is like a CZ with an amorphous carbon coating to make it stronger more diamond-like. Moissanite is completely different.

@Soon2bMrsGski:  Asha isn’t moissanite — it’s actually a cubic zirconia that’s enhanced with a coating.

Amora is an enhanced moissanite that changes the structure so that it appears whiter (up to an F color for smaller round cut).

Amora gem, which isn’t available in the US yet because of patent issues, is even whiter than the amora enhancement

I’ve owned diamonds and moissanite, and I just don’t see enough of a difference to pay through the nose (for our family’s budget) for the feeling of knowing it’s a diamond.
