(Closed) Mojito vs Sangria

I was a bartender for 4 years and my Fiance and Future Father-In-Law are ‘professional’ mojito mixers and drinkers.  Consider this:

1.  mojitos NEED club soda – you can’t really make them ahead of time in batches else the soda goes flat

2. YES, the mint does change color over time and you don’t want to serve "swamp water" to your guests

3. make your own  ___ is a good idea and quite fun BUT not in this case.  This is a fantastic drink but the steps to make it (muddle the lime, squish the mint, add the sugar, add the rum, splash the soda, stir) can be tricky for an untrained guest – and the results of the concoction carried out poorly can make for a nasty drink and you’ve lost your signature drink.

Compromise?  Make mojito limeade and keep the sangria. The limeade has the flavor of mojitos, not the alcohol, no soda needed and the mint can be sieved away so there is no swampy effect.  you can even put whole mint leaves to make it look pretty.

Hope that helps.

what are your wedding colors?  For us – we chose our signature drinks based on the color.  Personally, if you’re going to serving such huge quantities, my vote is for the Sangria – less of a mess.

i’ve been torn between mojitos and sangria also!!!! i love the idea of doing a mojito bar. however, what helped me decide that sangria would be a better choice for us was to think about what our guests would prefer.  both of our families love wine, so once i considered that, it was a very easy decision!!! good luck and post some pics of your end result, either way!!

I adore mojitos, but I don’t think you can mix them up like that ahead of time. For your setup, I think sangria is the option. Poor mojitos… Cry

Hmmmm.. I think that for your set up I would go with sangria 🙂

I would go with the mojitos because sangria is similar to wine, which you are already having, and the best part of sangria is eating the alcoholic fruit, which you wouldn’t be able to eat from those dispensers 🙂
