My fiancé and I have been living in a house with 2 roommates for about 6 months now. Within the past month, my fiancé and one roommate and I have all come down with a dry cough, unexplained headaches, and I have been running a low-grade fever for about 2 weeks (or at least that is how long i know I have been running one).
We discovered the culprit a week ago while Fiance and I were cleaning our bedroom and trying to search behind our bed for my wallet. Our bed is on the floor up against the walls in a corner, and I pushed a body pillow between the wall and the bed, so that our pillows wouldn’t fall in the crevice. anyways, while searching, I pulled the body pillow out from the wall, and it is COVERED in mold. the whole wall was damp, and mold was everywhere. I nearly threw up. Fiance and I talked with our roommates about it, and because it is exam time and we can’t deal with any extra stress, we decided to push the pillow back and deal with it after exam time.
Last night, while Fiance was peeing, he peeked out the window, and discovered that mold had grown all over the window sill in our bathroom (which is on the same wall as the moldy pillow) and we checked out other windowsills on that wall and there is mold all over them too.
Fiance and I are looking at moving to a house on the other side of town, but i am not sure if we can take anything with us when we move. Obvioulsy, the body pillow needs to be destroyed, and i am sure the mattress and our really nice expensive mattress pad needs to go too, but I am not sure what we can keep. will my clothes be okay? what about our comforter?
Also, if anyone has any advice on how we can deal with this, I would really appreciate it. We are sure that the mold is coming from the wall, and the house is super old (from the 60’s) so its probably been growing for awhile. Also, we rent our house from a rental company, and I have heard that this is their problem, and they should fix it, but what will they do it the house is unlivable?
I am so stressed! This is the last thing I need to deal with right now!!!
