Potlucks for weddings and receptions in the backyard were very common when I was growing up. I think that if this is typical for your area/family, this could work well and be a great event for your mom. And, it is super-sweet to hear how excited you are! I think you have gotten a lot of great tips already. I did my own flowers and ordered online from Sam’s and another company. I was pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive the roses were and how well everything held up. Dollar tree often has nice vases- in store and online. For those contributing to the potluck, I’d suggest you track who is bringing what. At a lot of events, people will just laugh if you have three potato salads, but you might want to try to avoid duplication for a wedding. This sounds wonderful- enjoy!

I love that how there are so many professionals in your family that are useful for a wedding! Congratulations to your mom. Very, very, happy to see that women like her are getting married at that age and thinking about their happiness and lives.

This is so sweet.  Nothing like a laid back family day to celebrate your mom’s marriage.  I think as long as you book the date and “assign” everything to family members in advance (so they know what to expect cost and time-wise), you’ll be doing well with getting it all covered.

The only recommendation I have (being part of a large and close-knit family myself) is to make 100% sure of all the details before you start asking people to help.  The worst is agreeing to something and then having the plans change a million times.  😉
