@MrsPirt_2013:  I don’t know what your mom is talking about. I have seen ladies in mermaid dresses where I felt like the dress really wasn’t doing them any favors and they probably shouldn’t be wearing it, but on you this dress looks great. Maybe your mom just really likes A line dresses or something, but I assure you that you look beautiful in this dress so go ahead and get it if you love it. I’m not just being nice here – if I didn’t really think you looked good in this dress I wouldn’t have bothered to reply to this thread. ๐Ÿ™‚

That looks great on you. Really it suits you. Prbably your mom just wants you to wear a big ball gown.

I’m not a huge fan of this style either, but it looks beautiful on you and you look so happy in it – it may not be to your mum’s taste, but it’s not her wedding! ๐Ÿ™‚

That dress looks amazing on you!  I agree with other posters… your mom doesn’t like mermaid dresses and doesn’t want you to wear one.  I’m sorry that her comment made you feel bad about your rockin’ figure.  That dress is incredible!

I had a similar problem with my mom… she kept pushing me towards A-line lace but everytime I put on a mermaid or fit-and-flare gown, the SAs and my sister kept saying this was the best silhouette for me.  I indulged her by trying on the ones she liked (I did like the way those A-line dress looked on the hanger) but she came around eventually when I found THE dress.  She had to admit it did all the right things for me.  (Fit-and-flare!!)

Moms often have their own idea of what they want to see their daughters in on their wedding day.  It might be what she dreamed for you, but it isn’t always was looks best on you in real life.   My sister kept whispering to my mom through the entire process (“Mom, it isn’t your wedding”), and the SAs I worked with were apparently used to this mother-daughter conflict.  I say… try on a few to humor your mom and see what you think.  If you have a good SA on your side, they can be very persuasive.

It looks great but it’s important to get off the podium thingy to see what it will really look like.

I stood on the podium numerous times and thought ‘oh my god, I look so tall and fabulous’ then I stepped off the podium……………….reality check ๐Ÿ™

It looks beautiful on you! I thought I didnt have the body for a fit and flare because I am also short and short waisted (and a little on the chubbier side, planning on losing that for tyhe big day though) but I was floored at how good it made me look and feel…I say go for it!

You look awesome in that dress, I think its more likely your mum just isn’t a fan of the mermaid style, it is quite fashionable at the moment. I asked my Fiance as well and he said it looked nice.

@MrsPirt_2013:

Hi, I am a really similar height and figure to you and I didn’t go a mermaid because I couldn’t find one that didn’t make me look chopped off at the knees, my Fiance is over 6ft and I wanted to wear low heels.  So I found a gorgeous trumpet-style gown instead (below- model).  I did not give up and go an A-line.

Your dress looks stunning with you in it.  I agree with the others, it has fantastic flow and gives you height but you do need to hop off the dias and check how high you want to wear your heels etc if you want to enhance the flow of the dress even further.  It’s a very elegant sophisticated look you have there and probably outside of your Mum’s comfort zone rather than a classic princess look because it confronts her with the reality that you are all grown up.

Good luck !!

SHAME on your mother! You have the perfect body for mermaid! Mermaid isnt traditional…maybe she wants something more traditional but had to come off mean in order to portray that? IDK..but you look great! My dress is a lace memaid and I think we are about the same size.

@MrsPirt_2013:  I LOVE it!  I think it looks fantastic on you.

Mom’s are funny – I’m anticipating some of the same from my mom.  I want a form fitting gown but I know she’ll comment about my hips – I don’t care, I’m happy with my figure and I want to show it off ๐Ÿ™‚
