I’m not a mommy yet, but when I am I REALLY want a Toyota Highlander. It’s a super cute mid-sized SUV.

I drive a Cadillac SRX. It’s a crossover SUV and really safe. But a gas guzzler for sure :-/

I’m looking at a suburu legacy right now to take its place.

I was just t-boned last week and it totalled my Honda Civic.  However, DH and I were discussing getting a new vehicle in November- now it is coming a bit earlier than planned.  We are looking at the GMC Acadia or the Chevy Traverse.  With 3 dogs and a baby on the way- we need something a little bigger and I don’t want to go as large as a tahoe and DH is insistant on not getting a van!

Good post.  While we aren’t TTC, my car is getting up in miles.  I am adamantly opposed to a minivan, and FH is adamantly opposed to an SUV (unless we were off-roading, which we aren’t.)  I am definitely concerned how we will find something that works and isn’t either.

I don’t have kids but I wanted to chime in that my parents always drove a car until we started going cross country with our dogs and needed more space.  I’m not sure if I will get an SUV when we have kids, I like having a low gas bill!

I drive a 2011 Jeep Compass and I really love it! It has the look of a jeep and the 4 wheel drive I need where we live but has the extras and feel of a crossover.

My next car will be slightly larger than the car I have now. I have a Honda Accord.  I want a crossover SUV.  Like the Nissan Murano, Ford Edge, Mazda CX7, Toyota Rav-4, Chevy Equinox.  My accord is 4 cyl so I sorta want stay with a 4 cylinder car.  Plus, having AWD would be nice.  I looked but I think the only 4 cylinder cross over SUV that has AWD is the Chevy Equinox or the Rav 4.

But who knows, my sister just got a Mazda 6 and it’s a 6 cylinder and has better gas mileage than my accord. Oh, a hybrid would be nice.  I guess I want to upgrade to a larger car but still keep my good gas mileage.

ETA: Oh, I also, decided that I won’t be a mini van mom.

I drive a Corolla. I find it absolutely perfect for 1-2 kids. I only had one when I got it but we now have two. My girl is in a booster and his son in a toddler car seat and there is still enough room.

For a baby, I highly highly highly recommend a car with four doors. Two doors can just be so difficult.

Mr. A has a 4 runner and while it has loads of room it gets almost half the gas mileage as my Corolla. We have been in a few accidents in the Corolla and it is an incredibly safe reliable car. I can also hold my daughter’s hand from the front seat if she sits in the back on the passenger side 🙂

No kids yet, but my husband thinks someone one can fit in our Mini Cooper.  We have two pugs that already take up the entire backseat with their car seats (don’t laugh, its law where I live to have dogs restrained in cars, and the car seats keep their fur somewhat contained).  I am thinking a Subaru (my last car) would be a good choice, not to big for around town, but tons of space in the trunk for the kid stuff.

i drive a pontiac vibe.  other than not being able to put the seats back all the way (which would make it tough if you’re taller than me–5’8–and need the leg room), it worked great with the infant seat and still works great with the convertible (a first years something or other…truefit?).  the convertible is still rear-facing too, with the headrest.  DS is 15mo now, and i plan on rear-facing him till he reaches the rear-facing weight limit on the seat, which is 35lb.  he’s only 24lb now, so it’ll be a while…  😉

I drive a small SUV (Ford Escape). Perfect height for putting a baby in and out of the car. I don’t have to bend over or reach up high. Small enough that I can easily reach back if he needs something. We had it when he was born and now he is 4 and we still have it and it is still a great size for us. In the next few years, I plan on getting a new vehicle and will again look at the small SUV size.

We just bought our Santa Fe Limited… We will be going on camping trips with baby and needed a vehicle that will tow a trailer.  The leather seats were a must so that spills and vomit are easily washable and don’t leave an awful smell in the car.

We’re very happy with our SUV; but I will miss the low gas expense of my Yaris… 🙁

I currently drive a Ford Explorer, and DH has a Honda Civic.   We have 3 kids (10, 8, 7), and 3 dogs.   We are currently shopping for a Honda Odyssey minivan.   If you plan to have 2 or more kids, and travel frequently (we travel about once a month) or do any kind of activities with kids, a large vehicle is a must.   Our Explorer is a tight squeeze when we travel, and we can’t fit another person in.   We don’t want to get any larger of an SUV, so the minivan is perfect for us.

I used to have a Toyota Sienna that I LOVED, but got rid of when my ex & I divorced.   Now, DH was so resistant to the minivan, until we started shopping.   He’s now completely in LOVE with the Odyssey.   We’re just waiting to find the perfect used one & we’ll be good to go.   We’re searching for an ’09 or newer, with low miles, lots of bells & whistles, and I’m very picky about color.  It must be white, silver, or another light color….   We currently have a black & a dark blue vehicle, and they drive me NUTS when they get dirty.

I have an Audi A4 and he has a VW CC.  Looks like he’s going to get a 5 series BMW soon (he has clients in his car all the time so it’s got to be nice) and I’m not getting rid of something that is actually fun to drive.

We also have an old Jetta that he’s working on and a Suburban that my parents sortakinda just gave us one day.   I think we’re set.
