Mine is two now, but from probably 9 months-18 months, he always was in bed by 7:30.  We had a solid schedule with him for some time, and it was really nice. I don’t think 8:30 is terribly late.

my twins go to bed at 8pm, but they take 2 naps a day and do not have to be up early for daycare. I know people who put there kids to bed at 10pm and I think they are nuts so 8:30pm isn’t that late

Mine always went to be around 8. Sometimes earlier at 7:30 or later at 8:30.  She didn’t get up until 7:30-8:30 am!  It’s not necessarily too late.  I mean if they get up at 5am it might be but if they wake up later I wouldn’t think it’s too late.

I think the overall picture is also important.  When does he wake up and how many/how long are the naps?

MrsCoest3:  Hi, my baby girl is the same way and she is 13 and a half months, she does not go to sleep until 10:00 – 10:30. If she goes to sleep earlier, lets say, 9:00 she would wake up at 12, it is exhausting, especially when you work full time. What I am doing is, I feed her at 6:30 – 7:00, bath time, she plays a little, by 8:30 – 9:00 she eats a snack (bread, turkey and milk) watches a little tv until 10 pm and goes to sleep.

She takes a 2 hour nap after lunch, and we try to keep her as active as possible.

MrsCoest3:  If you want Darling Husband to see him on his break, there really isn’t much that you can do.  You could try giving him a bath at that time though. It might relax him and then Dad can be involved too and get his time in. Then try to put him to bed right after. Turning it into a routine might help.

At that age, mine still took two good naps a day, at least an hour each,  and needed 11-12 hours at night. Bedtime was no later than 7:30.

My 9 month old goes to bed between 8-9. He sleeps all night and wakes up around 7:30-8. I don’t feel like it’s too late. He goes to sleep when he’s tired, sometimes it’s earlier and sometimes it’s later.

My 7mo old goes to bed at 7pm and 90% of the moms in a moms group Im in are the same …ranges on avg 630-730. I think 830 is ok as long as the wakeup is somewhat lining up (what time is wakeup?). I actually ended up working with a sleep consultant because at 4mo it was out of control wakeups and night feedings. I’ve worked with a few of the sleep “professionals” and at this age (for me) babies should be getting 11-12 hours night sleep. at 7-8mo old 7pm is whats considered “age appropriate” bedtime But there’s lots of factors to your individual situation so you just have to do whats best for you. If they are napping good and going down at night easy with no wakeups and are getting the right amount of hours a night then you dont need to change it. BUT if theres wakeups, if they get up quite a bit earlier then 830am and if naps are iffy, then those are signs baby needs to go down earlier! A lot of people put their babies down later thinking it will result in a later wakeup but the opposite will happen and they will wake up earlier because they are overtired.

I just went back and re-read a post and you said he’s frequently fighting going to sleep. I can tell you thats a huge sign of being overtired so I would suggest considering an earlier bedtime. A few of the moms in my group had the same issue when I helped them through sleep training and the minute they said “fine” and did bedtime earlier…babies just went down so easy and right to sleep!

8 months old and she goes to bed typically around 6-6:30. And sleeps until 6-6:30. I’ve found that sleep begets sleep.

My ten month old daughter goes to bed around 7:30-8. Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child was a big help in figuring out her schedule.

Our son is 7.5 months and is pretty much in bed anytime between 7-8pm and wakes up around 5am.  It works out well during the week because we have to get up for work – but man on the weekends it is no fun 🙂
