Did your second pregnancy wreck your body more than your first did?
I was scared of the effects that pregnancy would have on my body… I was very lucky, I am still 10 pounds over what I would like, but I didn’t get stretch marks or pooch or anything… My body is not the same but I think those who don’t know me could never tell I have a 9 month old.
Now that I am TTC for number 2, I am wondering if a second pregnancy is harder on the body than the first? I know most start showing faster, but do we get bigger? Did some people get stretch marks with the second even if everything was fine with the first? How much harder was it to get back into shape after?
Please share your experiences!

My second pregnancy was way easier than my first. I didn’t have the same ‘can’t eat anything for the first 4 months nausea’ or the overwhelming fatigue, nor was it possible for me to get any more stretchmarks. The fact that I breastfed for the first 4 months probably helped.Labour and delivery were much quicker (20hours 16 minutes the first, 3 hours 32 minutes the second) and my recovery was much quicker.
As for getting back in shape after, I only gained 11lbs with my son and 18lbs with my daughter so I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose. Toning was the only real issue and I can honestly say that I became stronger and more physically fit over the next couple of years. Exercise also really helped getting over post-partum depression with my daughter (I chose not to take meds because I was nursing her.)
So go have a ball with re-discovering how wonderful the female body is, and cut yourself some slack about worrying. It doesn’t have to be any worse the second time around 🙂

Because your muscles are already stretched out from the first pregnancy, second (and third, fourth, etc…) mothers often show sooner, get bigger, and need to work a little harder to strengthen their core muscles. Especially if the pregnancies are close together, since spacing pregnancies gives the body more time to recover.
Having said that, every pregnancy is different. I did not get any stretch marks with my first; I did with my second, but he was almost a pound bigger. I was also a lot bigerg and carried much lower with #2, but again, he was bigger than my first. As far as getting back into shape, losing the baby weight the second time around was exactly the same as my first, but I do have to work harder on strengthening my core muscles than I did before.

My two are 18 months apart. I had no stretch marks with either, both vaginal deliveries, tore with both. With #1, I gained about 30 lbs, had a little digestive stuff the first trimester, and needed to have my gall bladder removed afterwards. #2? Gained 22 lbs, no digestive issues but had gestational diabetes, feet grew 1/2 size. I’ve had some girl bit issues with both re: recovery and lost the weight pretty easily with both. So, yes, they were different. Oh, some sciatica and more aches and pains more quickly with #2 but I actually showed later. I don’t think my post-baby body was really different between #1 and 2. Good luck! Two so close together is sometimes pretty crazy!

I thought #1 and #2 were pretty much the same. I ended up at the same weight at the end of both pregnancies. Lost the weight very quickly with both (wore regular jeans the day after I got out of the hospital with #2).
With #3 I still didn’t show until 20 weeks. I am not bigger than with the other two, but feel more uncomfortable. I still don’t have stretch marks on my belly (just my chest).
I think sometimes knowing what is coming with subsequent pregnancies makes it a little easier.
