You could always have it recast and reset to whatever design you like.

That’s what we did with the ring my DH’s mom kept from his father (they were only married a couple years).  She’d had it reset and wore it for years, in a trend setting from the 80s.  It cost us about $250.  Jewelers should only charge labor on a recast/reset.

I didn’t even think I liked marquise and her ring was scary (pointy stabby!!!).  But I hunted online and combined somethings I found to make the end result.

ETA:  It’s up to you what you do with it!  But you have options!

White gold is generally 75% yellow gold & 25% platinum or palladium. So if you melt it down, you would just need a bit of one of those elements to make it white. We went through a friend who is a jewelry maker and actually just picked up the final products today!! We melted down some family heirlooms that were passed down to us & combined all of the pieces to make both of our rings. I could not be happier!! Having the metal already will save you a ton of money if you go to someone independent and you can get exactly what you want! Just like MrsTangerine said! And btw, great job on yours!!

For some reason, I can’t post pictures from my iPad, but I will be posting mine as soon as I can 😉

    Good luck!!

Yay, I can upload now!!  I am searching for a picture of the original, but here is my own unique design.  The original ring was a diamond but I fell in love with this sapphire ;-).

Sorry the images are so huge!  I have no idea how to change that.

@Amayansong:  Love both your rings, and even more awesome since you had them made from heirlooms!  The intricate designs on yours are amazing.

Also, thanks to everyone who complimented my ring!
