No kids here, but a guy I worked with delivered both his daughters within 15 months of each other, so no choice there!
The first one was in the car on the way to the hospital, and he had to pull over. The second one (only a few weeks ago), his wife called him home from work to take her to the hospital, and by the time he got there she was like “nuh uh, ain’t gonna happen” and he delivered the baby in the bathroom. Funny aside, he had to call his real estate and ask to postpone their house inspection that was scheduled for the next day! They couldn’t believe the reason when he told them.

Our first is due 12/31/13 so I didn’t vote since I’m not sure yet. In talks I’ve said I would prefer him not to look, although I’m pretty sure he will. Which is fine, really (to me) it’s his choice if he thinks he can handle it. 🙂 I’ve heard that when you’re there it’s can be hard to NOT see everything just because it’s all there, even if you aren’t looking to see it.

My husband looked when his daughter (now 22) was born and wasn’t traumatized by it. He’s keen to watch the new baby come out too. Eh, doesn’t bother me.

Where’s the “I would not let him!” poll option? lol

How did I not know you were a nurse? I can’t imagine a woman would want to watch, lol. I know I sure as hell couldn’t do that. As silly as it sounds, I don’t want my husband to associate my vagina with anything other than our “sexy time.” Obviously he knows that’s where babies come out of, but that doesn’t mean he needs to see it!

Yes, dh looked (the 1st time. He said it was gross but he laughs about it… didn;t turn him off me at all. I didn;t want to look, I was in too much pain LOL.
The 2nd and 3rd time, he missed the actual birth (babies came too quick, even though he was there in the hospital, just didnt make it for the birth)). Not sure what he’ll do this time around. He did stay by my head for the most part with #1 and help me out by holding and squeezing my hand. But I didn’t care if he wanted to look.

Oh yeah he watched the whole thing… even saw me poop! Yikes!

My husband wasn’t going to look at first, but when the time came, he was curious and looked… he actually had to go sit on the couch for a little so he wouldn’t pass out lmao. He was good after that and looked again. Here we are on our 2nd and Im not sure if he will look again or not… I think he will lol. He is still very interested in me and still thinks im sexy after seeing all of that lol.

@Sunshine09: let me just say i’m not pregnant yet, so i don’t know what i’ll actually think when the time comes.
some women POOP when giving birth….if it was today i think i would definitely request that he stay by my head. i think he’d be a watcher though.

My husband watched the whole thing. Didn’t bother me at all. He would have liked to have been a dr had he decided at a younger age so he’s interested in how it all works. He loved the experience of seeing it all. It was motivating to me too, him telling me he could see the head and hair – it made me push longer and harder knowing it’d be that much quicker for him to see all of her. He joked that if I needed a c-section for whatever reason he was gonna ask the dr if he could pull the baby out.

We’re planning a natural vaginal birth for our first who’s currently cooking in the oven. DH will be helping catch the baby and cut the cord. I don’t think he’ll watch watch but he’ll definitely have to feel around. I’m hoping I can watch with a mirror too!

yep! he was up helping me and every so often he’d go down to see for himself how things were going and kept telling me how he could see all of her hair 😀

@Sunshine09: Yes, my husband did partially see our children come out of my vagina. Seriously guys, we’re adults. We don’t have to be coy.
He stayed by my head for most of it, but he did look down a few times to see what was going on. And for all the childless bees who are thinking ‘but what if he sees me POOP or something gross like that?!’ you really will not care when you’re in labour. Yeah it can be embarassing when gross stuff happens during the birth, but it’s a whole new level of intamacy to let your SO see you like that and you’ll be glad s/he was there in the end.

I had a csection, but my hubby watched all the gore and even took a bunch of photos! I thought it would be gross to see, but it was amazing.

Yup! And he was so amazed! It never crossed my mind to tell him not to look.
DH also saw baby girls hair!!
