I am assuming its the card box, which for weddings around me usually contains money since physical gifts are reserved for the shower.

@BetterSherm:  What people bring to weddings for presents is regional. Where I am from people only give money or if they do give a gift its mailed to the home. Other areas, like yours, do actual gifts.

If people do not do cash (Ie cards) at your weddings in your area, then all you need is maybe a small basket for miscellaneous cards you may get.

The weddings I go to usually have both.  The card box is typically on the gift table, or it may be book for people to sign (the people sitting there can keep an eye on it).

A card box is for when people bring cards/cash as a gift to the wedding. It’s essentially meant as an obvious place to put them and also to safely keep them together so you don’t drop them or have a sticky fingered person graB a couple in public venues like hotel ballrooms.
