What about reception hall, dress etc? Or are you just asking about the stuff you have listed out? All together for the wedding, we are trying to keep things right around the 5-6 thousand mark, including the things my parents are covering like the food. Just for the stuff you have listed out, I think his band is about 300, gifts for the parents and bridal party we want to keep around 500 (100 for each set of parents, the 300 going to the bridal party) and I don’t think we are going to buy each other traditional gifts–we already own our home and have combined finances for household stuff, so I think as a gift we’ll “buy” each other either the new living room or dining room set I have been pestering him about.

Wow, you’re really spending a lot of $ on gifts for your parents and FI! I gave my Darling Husband a card on our wedding day. And we didn’t buy our parents any gifts, we thought that was a little excessive. WE plan on eventually gifting them albums for Xmas, once we have access to our photos.

The things we paid for were:

1/2 of the Rehearsal Dinner: $2,000

Gifts for wedding party: $400ish for all 12 members

Honeymoon: $4,500 (ish, I don’t know the exact amount)

    Wedding Bands: $1,500

Grooms Tux rental and custom shirt: $250

Brides hair/makeup trials and eyelash extensions: $300

I’m sure there were other things, but for the most part our parents picked up the tab for the big ticket items like the reception, ceremony, decor, band, etc. Our hotel rooms were free since we had the wedding at the hotel ballroom. But I felt bad asking my Mom to pay for things like my trials and my DH’s tux.. I know they intended to, but I felt like we should pay for something like that.

Our wedding was around 3,000 miles away from where we live, and we were there for 10 days, so our hotel/car rental was around $2,000.

Wedding bands: $1750 total for both

No bridal party, so no presents there

We decided that wedding presents to each other were pretty pointless since we were already pledging our lives to one another

I made high-end photo books for our parents, that came out to about $350 total.

We paid for around $15,000 of our own wedding, which was half. Your OP isn’t clear about what elements to include in the calculation. Since you only have “Above $2,000” as your highest option, i’m going to assume that you didn’t mean the entire wedding, since the average wedding is around $25,000-30,000 and many of us pay for them mostly or all by ourselves.

Also, our rent on our one-bedroom apartment with bare bones amenities is $1350…so $900 sounds really freaking amazing!)

@totheislnds: FH and I are paying for our own wedding in France, it is a simple wedding with only 150 guests for the cocktail and 100 for the dinner. so far we have spent 12K euro. and we still have to buy the wedding bands, the groom’s suits, and the honeymoon.

We paid for our wedding.  It was a simple JoP ceremony with only our immediate families in attendance.  Our “reception” for 13 people was dinner out at our favorite restaurant and we just showed up there.

Breakdown for what we paid for:

    Justice of the Peace $200

    Marriage License $100

    Bouquet   $10

Reception for 8 adults and 5 kids  $300

    Wedding bands approx. $1300

Honeymoon at local resort hotel  $500-$600

We didn’t buy a wedding gown or rent a tux.  Pulled our favorite outfits from our closet.  No hair or make up stylists, no bridesmaids or groomsmen, no limos, no special jewelry, veil, etc.  It was a quickie ceremony on a weekday afternoon!

We are making contributions based on what me, my Fiance, and our parents can afford, then dividing that pool among all the expenses (venue, food, dress, rehearsal dinner, honeymoon, rings, etc). I contributed $5K of my own savings, which was a bit of a stretch for me.
