The location can be a huge expense- if you can find an inexpensive or free location, you can save a lot of money.

Do a picnic, BBQ or just appitizers if they have a lot of guests.  They can do a bunch of smaller cakes instead of the big wedding cake.

Buy the vases for your centerpieces at a Dollar Store or online- Saved huge

Buy wedding dress online after finding in store- Saved $1000 🙂

Buy ties/shirts for groomsmen online- $10 per tie/$20 per shirt

DIY Michaels invites (sorta DIY)- Use 40% off coupons, also bought favor boxes and cut them to size

Print your own wedding photos, ask only for DVD: saved $1500 on photo package, and photographer admitted she takes prints smaller than 8 by 10 to a chain store anyways

Biggest savings by far was the wedding dress.  I was kinda nervous, but it arrived perfect!

skip anything that’s not really necessary.  pick a beautiful location that doesn’t need a lot of “dressing up” with decorations.  use the items your venue has on hand, and skip rental “extras” like chargers/color napkins/fancy chairs.  if you can, narrow down the guest list, or look into brunch/morning or friday/sunday reception.  make what you can, and utilize help from friends and family.
