If I were you I’d get my initials.

It’s bad luck (and form) to wear your married monogram prior to being married. I would wait until you can claim the new letter…and then it’s up to you on how you choose to change your new name (keep you old middle name, drop your old last name or use your old last name as your new middle name, and then drop your old middle name).

I am thinking about getting one of these.  Right after we got married we had one of those Monogram wall sticker’s made, and it has DH’s first intial, our last name, and my first initial.

@Stephville:  Your married monogram would actually be (your first initial) (your married initial) (his first initial). His first initial does not go first.

@somethingaquamarine:  On a necklace like this, I would think it would be weird to get your married monogram…right? These kinds of necklaces should be your own initials, though right.

I would get one yes but a heck of lot smaller, personally I find the necklace above not my taste.

@phillybride61513:  I never said she should get her married monogram. I just explained what a married monogram actually is. After she’s married, she can use either one.

I have one (vintage and very ornate, lots of fine details).

It’s my current initials (I actually found a vintage monogram with my current initials!) and that’s going to end up working great because my Fiance is taking my last name, but I bought it well before he decided he was going to do that.

We both think it is perfectly fine to keep wearining monograms of your maiden/bachelor name after you’re married even if you decide to change your last name legally to your partner’s. He has a bunch of monogrammed shirts with his bachelor last name I’m not going to expect him to stop wearing. That last name was his last name for a long time… it will always be a part of him, legal name or not.

@Sassygrn:  These are actually only about 1″ across. They do look giant, though.

I would get your initials with whatever your last name is going to be after you’re married. So if your married name is Sue Jane Adams, your initials would read (on the monogram) SAJ, with the A larger.
