So… we were planning this vacation to Disney World in August. I wanted to suprise Mr. Ohmy with beer waiting for us at the hotel room. So I called up a Disney rep and wanted her advice on the best day to do it. She said that he indicated that our second day was a big “celebration day” for the two of us and I should have the beer delievered after we went out to Citricos (which is a fany restaurant I had no idea we were going to).
I put two and two together pretty quickly. We weren’t celebrating anything. My birthday was 6 months away. Our anniversery was in October… so it could only mean one thing! ENGAGEMENT! I got super excited and told one friend and my mom what I had found out. That one friend then accidently let it slip that I knew it was coming to Mr. Ohmy. He got upset (not terribly so, he laughed it off after a day) and straight out told me he was going to change his proposal plans.
He made a big show of fake proposing to me the rest of the month. It was frustrating, to say the least.
The day we were leaving for vacation, I suggested we play Monopoly (our favorite game) while we waited for the car to pick us up for the airport. He agreed, but he insisted that I open and set up the game. He was super insistent to the point that he boxed me in. I reluctantly agreed thinking that he wanted to fake me out again. And I was right! Inside the box were two pieces of Christmas chocolate. I turned around to thank him when I saw him on his knee… actually proposing.
He later told me that he didn’t plan it. He knew he wanted to do it before or on vacation but he couldn’t think of a moment that was “us.” When he had the opportunity, he jumped at it! And I am glad he did! We had plenty of time to call family and friends to share the news before we left. And Disney is the perfect place to celebrate an engagement! Plus, we aren’t really “Disney People”, so it makes it more special to do it in our home.
