My midwife is in her mid 60s and has been delivering babies for years. She is usually pretty accurate to the oz with predicting baby weights. At my last appointment which was 39 weeks she said she predicted Dear Daughter to be about 8lbs and said they consider that a average healthy baby. Dear Daughter was delivered and weighed 7lb 2oz I think it was one of the only times she was so far off with her prediction. I had a natural vaginal delivery no epidural or meds. I did end up with a 2nd degree tear but it wasn’t terribly uncomfortable. I asked my midwife hiw much the biggest baby she ever delivered weighed and she said 13lbs !! She assured me that our bodies are meant to deliver our babies and that babies size coincide with what our individual bodies will be able to handle (meaning a tiny woman wouldn’t have a 11lb baby). Whether or not that’s accurate I’m not sure just passing the info along and I really trusted and respected my midwifes opinion so just food for thought. Good luck with your labor and delivery and enjoy your precious babe when they arrive. The time goes by so quickly.
