DH’s bday is coming up in a few weeks. Since he doesn’t need any more “stuff” I’ve decided to buy tickets for us to see one of his favorite bands play in Montreal.
I’m looking to see if anyone can give me any insight on Corona Theatre. This band is known for playing in some real shitholes so I’d like to be prepared. Their website looks nice enough but ya never know. I’m also looking for some hotels recs for the area. I’d like to stay in close proximity to the theatre since that’s really all we’re planning on doing when we’re there (well besides probably dinner).
Any Montrealians (is that a word? I don’t think so) care to help a girl out?

@UpstateCait: Corona Theater is pretty good! Not a shithole!! But it’s not a huge enormous venue either….. It’s an older/vintage venue, but should be great for a concert!
As for hotels, it really depends on your budget. There are a handful of gorgeous boutique hotels in Old Montreal (more expensive), but you can find some good hotels at moderate prices downtown as well…..!

@liz.couture: Perfect, thanks! Do you know of any decent hotels in the area?
ETA: Sorry, didn’t see your update. I’m definitely trying to do this on the cheap. Since we’ll only be sleeping there, I’d like to keep it under $150 a night. We are picky though so the hotel will have to atleast be clean and preferably updated.

Not too sure about the prices, but check out tripadvisor.com or even expedia, maybe you can find a good deal and the user reviews are usually pretty accurate!!
Good Luck! Let me know if you need any other advice/information

If it’s what I’m thinking of, I haven’t heard complaints about it. I don’t know how much luck you’ll have finding hotels very close – it’s not in an area with many hotels from what I can think of. You’ll likely have some luck for something in the western part of downtown (between Station Guy-Concordia and Station Georges-Vanier, moving east). It’s close to Lionel-Groulx so you can easily connect via metro from anywhere in the city.
You might want to have a look on expedia – I just had a quick check and there’s definitely options in the downtown area for less than $150/night. I think the only hotel I’ve ever stayed at in Montreal before I moved here was a Days Inn which was fine (near Lucien-L’Allier metro). I know several people who’ve had no issues at any of the big chains downtown – the Hilton, Marriot, Fairmont, etc.
