@Petite_Fraise:  There are a few of us! We are literally the only of our group of friends and relatives around our age who is getting married; we have *one* married couple as friends. He’s French-Canadian and my family (grandparents generation) are as well, but I grew up elsewhere.

How did you meet your SO/FI?   We met at school; started our grad degrees at the same time.

When (if applicable) are you getting married? We haven’t decided yet. Maybe sometime at the end of this year, maybe next spring.

Where (if applicable) are you getting married (ceremony + reception)?
Also undecided. We want to elope or have a mini-destination wedding with just parents. If we have a wedding here, all of his family will expect to be invited, so we’ll probably go away and get married and have some kind of at-home reception at a family home or a restaurant.

Have you found your dress?
Yep; a BHLDN party dress.

Not Wedding Related: What do you think of the student protests?
I…. Ugh. Well I’m a grad student. Our tuition situation is different. I sympathize with the *feeling* behind the strike – tuition increases suck. But I am past the point of sympathy when it comes to the measures (some) students are taking. I’m hopeful this temporary truce will end positively one way or another. I think both sides have set themselves up for disaster though – if Charest doesn’t back down, I don’t really see what students are going to do. I’m also really concerned about the implications the strike has on the lives of students participating, in terms of them losing the school year someone has paid for them, losing time, and potentially having legal consequences for those who’ve got caught up in some of the more questionable/violent situations.

@Petite_Fraise:  It’s just hard to be on the side of people who are setting off smoke bombs in the metro at rush hour…

I’m at McGill; what about you?

Yay! People from Montreal!!!!!

How did you meet your SO/FI?
We met a long time ago, I was in elemantary school, Fiance in his first year of HS, through mutual friends.

When (if applicable) are you getting married?
May 25, 2013. Almost a year away!!!

Where (if applicable) are you getting married (ceremony + reception)?
Ceremony: St. Thomas Moore in Verdun
Reception: Chateau Royal in Laval

Have you found your dress?
I did. The designer doesn’t have a webpage though.

Not Wedding Related: What do you think of the student protests?
I understand why they are protesting, but ending up getting tickets that are higher than the tuition raise doesn’t seem worth it to me, and we DO have the lowest tuition in Canada so… No sympathy from me.

i may not live in Montreal now, but i was there for the first 29 (of my 31) years of my life, so Montreal will always be “home” for me.  i met Darling Husband in Montreal and was there for about half of our engagement.  And well, i am still a registered full time PhD student at McGill  πŸ™‚

How did you meet your SO/FI?

We met at McGill in our stats class during our masters’ program

When (if applicable) are you getting married?

we got married last April 2011!

Where (if applicable) are you getting married (ceremony + reception)?

we had a destination wedding in Jamaica.

Have you found your dress?

I first found it on a last minute trip to NYC, then i sold it and found my real dress in California where i did my internship last year.  I still had some fun walking along St.Hubert street with my mom and sister when i came home for the holidays during my internship. I got my shoes, ring pillow and cake topper at random shops along there.  And all my BMs tried on their Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses at Ami-Fer.

Absolutely ridiculous! I understand how it started out, but as soon as it hit the level of violence, i thought they were insane and that it needs to stop.  It’s at the point where i hope they don’t “win”.   Although i admit, i  have not been following it too closely, just going off what i hear from Darling Husband and from my friends facebook updates.    I am a little afraid of what i will run into at Darling Husband convocation this weekend at UofM….

@Petite_Fraise:  Tell me about it! I battled myself (and fiance) over the price tag for so long, but ultimately decided that it’s too gorgeous to pass up πŸ™‚
