I’m an Australian girl marrying a French Canadian (I know lucky me!). We are planning on having a wedding in Australia in March (2014) followed by a reception (no ceremony) in Montreal in May for the guests that can’t make it to Australia.
Ideally it will be for 90 people and I’m looking for something that isn’t crazy expensive and has character, so not really a hotel banquet room and we both love Old Montreal. Any suggestions to help me in the right direction would be great! Any other suggestions from brides that have done two celebrations would also help.
thanks everyone 🙂

Here are a few potentials
This one isn’t in Old Montreal, it is in lasalle, but I always thought it had character. It is the Vieille Brasserie
rents from the city
There is also March Bonsecours which has about four rooms to rent with a histori flare.
Hope these help! Good luck

@fleurtyle: I actually booked La Vieille Brasserie which was mentioned above. They release dates for the venue on a monthly basis one year in advance. If you’re looking for a Saturday in May 2014, it’s probably not doable at this point. It is also a venue set up to be very DIY as in you get a liquor license, outside caterer, etc… This offers a lot of flexibility but probably would not be best if you’re coming from Australia.
We wanted that which is why we went with it but you may want to check out the Vieux Port Steakhouse. They have some nice rooms and solid food. Since it’s a restaurant, you’ll be able to get a package with servers, booze, food, etc… all in one which would probably be ideal for you. They do weddings all the time. Their dinner food is solid and their brunch is awesome. It’s not super cheap but it’s not a rip off at all either. It’s also in the Old Port which you mentionned.
Not sure if you’ve figured this out already but figured I’d chime in anyway just in case.
