I’m sorry I haven’t had a wedding at either of these places but I have visited Moon Palace (back in 2004). It was a very upscale resort, but extremely Americanized. It barely felt like Mexico other than the fact that we were physically in Mexico, but that didn’t bother me. I don’t know if having a cultural experience is what you’re after. They had good service, high standards, lots of options, and plenty of food and entertainment.

I WILL be getting married at a Dreams resort (Dreams Cabo) and we’ve heard nothing but good reviews from our friends about it. It seems Dreams is more of a resort that is “designed for weddings” but Moon Palace is actually a fancier choice.

@LyndaButterfly:  I have only been to Moon Palace- but I had an AMAZING time!  There is so much to do all the time, or you can just relax.  It’s the nicest place I have ever stayed (there are Chi blow dryers and straighteners in EVERY room!) and all-inclusive really is all-inclusive.  We actually have some experience with the wedding coordinators because Fiance relied on them to help plan our proposal!!  We were the first proposal they helped with at the resort (I guess they aren’t elaborate proposals in Mexico, so they thought it was kinda weird, but they really went above and beyond!!) They sent me to the spa for a manicure (that’s when I got suspicious), arranged for the horse and carriage to pick me up (their horse and carriage is SOO romantic), they were there to take photos of Fiance proposing, and then we had a scheduled photo shoot on the beach, and then a private 5 course dinner in a gazebo on the beach.  Our whole stay was top notch.  I hope that’s helpful to you ๐Ÿ™‚  We are getting married locally because my grandmother can’t fly but we are considering going back for our honeymoon!

@LyndaButterfly:  While I haven’t been to either of those resorts, we did stay at the Dreams in Puerto Vallarta and everything was absolutely perfect.  The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, there were lots of activities, the room was nice and always clean, the grounds were meticulously maintained.  Several weddings happened while we were there and they looked so beautiful.

@LyndaButterfly:  i haven’t stayed at either hotel but i would, both sound great!

i am very familiar with that coast so the best advise i could give you is to consider the location of your resort.  if you and your guests just want to stay onsite, fine but if you want to go to cancun (hotel zone) or to playa del carmen, think of distance and taxis.

drive times may vary due to time of day and traffic but from the airport, moon palace is 15min; dreams tulum is 1.5hrs.  to cancun hotel zone, moon palace is 30min; dreams tulum 2hrs.  to playa del carmen moon palace is 30-45min; dreams tulum is 45-60min.

there are a lot of great activities south of playa del carmen so the dreams tulum would be great if you didn’t want to go to cancun proper and don’t mind the longer drive to and from the airport.

whichever place you choose, i’m sure you will have fun.

I’m getting married at Moon Palace! I’ve stayed there about 5 times over the years on family vacations and my family loooooves it. There is so much to do. It’s like a cruise ship in the amount of activities. We also love the variety of restaurants. It’s large but we usually split up and end up running into each other since we hang out at the same few spots. The new club is awesome and the kids club looks like so much fun. Let me know if you have more questions.

I’ve been to a wedding at Dreams Tulum and it was fabulous.  Based on that experience I held my wedding at Now Amber in Puerto Vallarta (part of the same chain) and it was also great.

I have vacationed at Dreams Tulum. While I was there, there were several weddings. Dreams has a quaint feeling. If you are concerned about spending too much time with your guests after the wedding I would go with MP. Dreams has great food, great staff and VERY close to Tulum ruins. For us, it was a relaxing vacation and not much to do in the way of evening entertainment after dinner. I say marry at MP, then honeymoon at Dreams ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband and I just came back from our honeymoon in Mexico.  We didn’t stay at Dreams Tulum, but we did stay at another resort in Tulum, and for what it’s worth, I think Tulum is tons more beautiful than Cancun.  We went for the day to stay at a sister resort in Cancun, and Tulum has more beautiful beach by far!
