Fiance and I have two weeks of post-wedding vacation time. We will be traveling from the east coast and debating between the following itineraries:
- 8 nights in French Polynesia (Moorea, Bora Bora) -includes daily breakfast
- 13 nights in Hawaii (Maui, Lanai, Oahu) – includes rental car for 5 days in Maui
Cost is similar with the above packages but time is the main concern. Not able to make the French Polynesia trip longer due to limited flight options. I am obsessing over the overwater bungalows in Bora Bora as it seems like a once in a lifetime experience but wondering if it will be enough time to enjoy it and if we should maximize beach time in Hawaii.
Please vote and share your thoughts/experiences!

I had the same debate… decided on French Polynesia because it truly is once in a lifetime (at least for me!) Can’t wait!

I picked Hawaii and it looks like I’m the only one so far.
For our honeymoon we considered alot of locations and decided on Hawaii. Mostly because the travel time seemed ridiculous if we went too far and we didn’t want to spend that much time on a plane. We’ve been on other vacations to Asia and the flight always kind of killed it for us because we were so jet lagged the first few days. So we set our personal max at 10 hours for travel. Coming from the east coast to bora bora would probably be about nearly a 15 or so hour plane ride for you, so definitely take that into consideration.
I wanted to be able to spend more of our honeymoon together and really maximize the time experiencing things and doing things together. Also, the money we saved from not going further allowed us to set up some really great activities on the islands like luaus and snorkeling and ziplines etc.

Eight days still seems like a long vacation to me and it would be such a once-in-a-lifetime experience to go to French Polynesia, so I vote for that.

I’ve been to both! And it’s not even a comparison, Bora Bora is where you should go.

Moorea/Bora Bora for sure!

Hawaii is amazing, but if I had a chance (and the money/time) to go to Bora Bora, I would take it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we just don’t have that kind of money so we’ll be spending 12 days in Maui, Hawaii in my parent’s timeshare (which we’re super stoked about, btw!).
Does your package include staying in one of the over the water bungalows? We know a couple who went for their honeymoon last summer and they did a daily blog while they were there and it looked absolutely amazing. They said that food was so expensive though.

When I travel, I tend to get antsy near the end of the trip and am usually ready to go home. If you have 2 weeks off of work, I would do the 8 day trip and come home and have a few days to recuperate before going back to work. No matter what you decide though, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time!
