I say as long as she gets her dress on time, let her order/obtain the dress however she wants to.  Her happiness or lack thereof with the dress is not on you at all.

these are all easily surmountable problems.

She orders the dress from where you are – she gets alterations done (which on a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress, one alterations appt is usually fine).

If it doens’t come in on time, you put it in a box and mail it to her. She will get alterations where she is.

I’m flying to Europe with my wedding dress. Packing and traveling with a BM’s dress is pretty easy. If she flies, she packs it and has it steamed when she arrives.

Don’t stress. it will be fine 🙂

Two of my bridesmaids live out of town. I am ordering their dresses and having them shipped to me, inspecting them, and then shipping them out to them. If you have to ship it to her, go to the post office, put it in a Priority Mail tyvek bag, and drop it at the counter (or use the automated machines)? If she orders it there, she’ll pack it and bring it with her (though if she drives, more likely she’ll put it on a hanger and hang it in the back seat)? I think you’re freaking out over nothing.

@MissKit:  teh actual steaming takes about 10 minutes. Any dry cleaner will generally do it. I don’t know how much it costs, but you could call and ask various places.

You can also buy a handheld steamer (good for your dress, the BM’s and everyone else) for about $40 from amazon

@MissKit:  I don’t understand your concern; I honestly think you are making a huge issue out of something minor.  Most sizing charts I’ve encountered for bridal wear are fairly accurate (and I know that at least Allure’s is correct).  You said that she can order her dress in her town; she can ensure her correct size by trying on samples at the shop there.

All of my bridesmaids live out of town.  Like vorpalette, I ordered their dresses and they are getting shipped to me.  Then I will ship out to them for alterations.  I picked something that travels well and is matte, so if we don’t have time to steam them before the wedding it’s not a big deal.  I also ordered the dresses early enough that if something goes wrong we have time to either order something else or fix it.

A bridesmaid alteration is a one time appointment.  It’s not like a bridal gown where you have multiple fittings.  I had out of town bridesmaids who just called in with their measurements.  I think you have a lot of time before your wedding so I wouldn’t worry about getting it in time.

Some venues have steamers in the girls’ getting ready area.

One fitting is enough for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. This sounds like a non-issue. Is there some other reason you are finding your dealings with her stressful right now?

I would just send her a check for 20 dollars and tell her to order it from where she is.

@MissKit:  Aw!  I think everything will be fine.  If you’re ordering soon you’ll have lots of time to fix any fitting issues that may come up before the wedding.

It could be any number of crazy reasons for why she wants to order it in your town versus hers.  Remember that SYTTD thrives on drama; I highly doubt the average wedding is much like what you see on that show.

THIS should not be stress. If something this minor is stressing you then I would take a step back for a moment and give myself a break. Like PPs said, one fitting should be enough. All my BMs ordered their dresses from the local shop near me and they live all over. Everything will work out. Everything will work out just fine and your bridesmaid doesnt seem like she is trying to cause you any stress or problems.
