It is not uncommon to have differing numbers of attendants on the bride’s and groom’s side.

You Fiance should not have to include someone he’s not real keen on having.

My FH and I were concerned about it at first (since we thought it would be heavily imbalanced a la’ Peter Klaven in ‘I love you, man’) but when we thought it might be 1 short (3 Bridesmaid or Best Man + 1 Maid/Matron of Honor to 2 Groomsmen + 1 BM), I wasn’t too worried about it. Definitely do NOT ask a Bridesmaid or Best Man to step down, and don’t worry about having your FH ask someone that he’s not close to be a Groomsmen. I’ve been to a few weddings with an uneven number of attendants…. no biggie. I think it’s one of those things that only a bride would notice, so I think you’re OK.
