Over the summer I gained like an extra 10 lbs (work related stress + too much sugary coffee + mcdonalds + I stopped running = extra chubs!). I’ve always been fairly the same size (0-2) and I’m not even 5 feet tall so this extra weight (now a size 2-4) was really a nuisance–not too much that you need new clothes, but enough that your pants don’t fit!! Since it wasn’t that much weight, I signed up for a month-long boot camp and have been going about a week and I’m noticing that I already lost 2 lbs and am starting to firm up. The instructor told me that extra flab in my middle I’m worried about would be gone by the end of the month. I’m worried that if I decide to keep going to the gym that my size will change so much that my dress won’t fit? Also, that if I DON’T keep working out that the flab will just return from wedding stress! Am I the only one who has worried about this? I just have this horrible vision of trying to put on my dress and it doesn’t fit (think Kate Hudson in “Bride Wars” lol….”You don’t alter Vera to fit you….you alter yourself to fit Vera!”) 😉

How far away is the wedding? I think that’s a big determining factor. For me personally, I will be working out to loose weight until 4 weeks before the wedding. I scheduled my final alterations for that time so that I can be as close to the weight I will be on my wedding day as possible. I’m planning on doing some serious regulation for that final month to keep the same weight.
In my case I am 5’7 135lbs. I bought my dress when I was 150lbs and it was snug. Right now the dress fits me as is and needs only a little alteration to fit my body type. I’m still 6 months away from the wedding and plan on loosing only about 5-10 more lbs and maintaining the rest of the weight I have lost.
I think if you can make a good time line to fit alterations if need be then you’ll be fine. Just be sure to try on your dress every once and a while to see how you are doing.

I absolutely have those same fears; I can relate! One thing I’m doing to at least help a little with those worries is that, even though I bought my dress several months ago, I’m not getting sized for it until late December. It takes 6-8 months to come in, and then I know I will need some time for alterations, so I’m getting sized at the last minute so I have that much less time to keep my weight exactly the same! I am worried, though, about wedding stress etc. making me bigger and bigger as the day approaches. Sigh.

I would continue with your weight loss until the last possible moment. I am just starting now and plan to lose weight up until 1 month before my wedding, and I already ordered my dress!! It fits now, so it will definitely need alterations. I don’t care though, if it costs me $500 to alter my dress because I lose 25 lbs? I will still be sooo proud of myself!!
