I just put on a poll yesterday asking all your girls what food options I should have. We decided we wanted a seafood plate, and a chicken plate, so when I emailed our vendor and she said that it will be 2$ more per person if I wanted a second option. Thats an extra $400 just for people to have two meal options!! Iv never heard of this, so I was just wondering if this is normal? It really makes me mad when I am spending $30 on a plate of food, and she wants an extra $2 a person just for a second option!

No I would say that’s not normal, especially if your guests will be making their selections before the wedding so the caterer is well prepared for how much of each item they’ll need. We had 4 options and were not charged extra just for offering the options.

That’s standard practice with restaurants or hotels in catering or events. I’ve encountered that many times when I’ve planned events. Usually, the extra per person per entree is for premimum ones like steak. Also, when the bill is done they total it by how many people had what entree as well.

In my experience yes that is normal. Just how the cookie crumbles, sorry =/

Doesn’t seem weird to me. I knew people who gave a choice and had to pay the cost of the higher entree for every plate; that, I think, sucks. $2 doesn’t seem like a bit deal.

I’ve definitely seen places that will do that. One solution – ask if they charge extra for vegetarian/kosher/gluten free option (they shouldn’t). Switch one choice (sorry!) for a vegetarian option.

its common in my area. it was explained thta they do it because so many people will change their minds that day or forget what they picked and they run out of one entree so they have to prepare extra. i promised my venue that i was super organized and will provide them with a list of everyone at each table and what they picked so there were no questions and she waived the fee

I had to pay $2 a head to get a second entree. It was a drop in the bucket compared to the total food & liquor charge but still annoyed me.
