Hi Bees, Every January my FH and I re-evaluate our wedding photography business and are kind of torn on one issue. We are primarily wedding photographers but in the last couple of years our brides have come to us wanting baby bump, newborn and now family photos. The family photography side has really become an important part of our business. Right now we have both our wedding and family photography stuff under one website. They are split into two sections but still under one site. Our blog is a mix of everything from wedding photos, family photos, tips for both brides and moms to get the most out of their photography investment. Oh an some personal projects when we have time to do them. My question to you is when you are looking for a wedding photographer are your turned off if the have more then wedding photography on their site or blog or do you like seeing that they are capable of producing other types of work. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If you want to see the site, just google my name, click on my profile, or PM me I just don’t want this post to be considered promotion/spam. Thanks guys!

I personally like to see the versatile work of a photographer! As long as the sections are divided up once you reach the ‘main’ page, I think it’s really nice to be able to look around.

if you have a clear distinction between wedding / family on the page itself, i think that’s good enough. The blog can be whatever you guys are currently working on, i like that. but if i were looking for wedding photos, i wouldn’t want to see family portraits, so I’d click on the wedding link and go from there.

From my personal perspective, I like to see what else the photographer can do. It’s easy for them to just post their wedding shots they’ve done but if they can show they have depth and the ability to capture other moments in people’s lives effectively that’s important to me. I like how your site is set up btw, in case someone didn’t want to see your other photos you have a strictly wedding portfolio and even then you have it divided into the various types of shoots. Really impressive-do you by chance want to come to Wisconsin? Just kidding!

I don’t mind seeing other non-wedding photos as long as it is in a separate section and I can easily navigate to the type of photos I want to see. Admittedly though, I look mostly at the wedding photos.

I like to see a portfolio of everything that the photographer does. It gives a better idea of consistency. Also, after my wedding, I might be looking for different types of photography, and if the photographer did an excellant job at the wedding, I would like to know that I could go to that photographer in the future.
