I just bought a loose morganite (oval) from gemselect.com. I would definitely recommend them: I bought several stones to see which one I liked best, and they let me return the others for a full refund (plus they arrived really fast).

I do not know much about pears, but I googled pear portuguese cut and saw this (apparently they do exist!). It was on etsy (already sold) and in silver, but it might help give you an idea when you talk to the jeweler about a custom ring? Just make sure that if you want a band that sits flush, you let them know 🙂

@slcall:  I’ve read mixed reviews with Gemselect so I’d like to hear more from you about them. I’ve got my eye on one of their morganites for a custom RHR that we’ll call the pirate princess for now. How quick did you get the stone? How was their customer service? Was it as pictured? Did you have it looked at by a jeweler?

@dewingedpixie:  I ordered three stones from gemselect (2 morganites and 1 pink spinel) on 12/29. Shipping was $20, for 3-4 buisness days, and since I ordered right before New Years, they did not come until 1/7 (4 buisness days). I picked my favourite and emailed them that night about returning the other two, and within an hour they had sent me the return number and instructions. Mailed the return on the 8th (return shipping was only $3), and got my refund on the 11th. I was very happy with them, and if I need another stone, I would go there again.

And just because I am so excited about it (my jeweler got it in the mail yesterday, and they have started my custom setting!)…

…and this is the ring I am having made (only a bit smaller), FWIW oval and pear are my favourite morganite shapes (although mine will be in rose gold, not white):

@slcall:  Thank you! I will order the Scissor cut one from them. Reading a real review like yours is easier for me than the mixed I’m finding on the internet. I’ll know when I get it if it is what they state or not. Did you get your gem certified?

I did not get mine certified, partly because my morganite was only $70 (didn’t want to pay the extra $20 per gem), and I do not plan on selling it or anything where I would need to prove what it’s specifications were. As long as I thought it was pretty was good enough for me 🙂

Hi! So I had the same worry as you about buying a custom ring online but I went with mastergoldcraft on Etsy and Stephen, the artisian, is a genius.  My ring turned out lovely.

She is a ~3 carat morganite with a diamond halo and set in rose gold

I just got her in the mail today and I just cannot stop looking at her.
