Hello everyone! So, I have been with my boyfriend for eight years now and we are FINALLY talking about getting in engaged. I came across morganite and have fallen deeply in love. I was orignally wanting to have a ring custom designed but it has proven to be a very difficult process. Well anyways, now I have found the ring I want and must have but I am worried that the center stone is going to be too large. I wanted to be around 3 carat size but I have found that morganites are measured in mm not carats. This ring that I must have is only given in mm so I do not know how big 14mm x 12mm would be. Can anyone help with this? Below is the amazing ring.

It’s going to be pretty large… a 5.00ct oval diamond measures at 12mm x 10mm (note: fancy diamond shapes are not standard & the ratio can differ).
What is their return policy? You could always get it and return it if you think it’s too big.
Edit: Ice.com has some nice morganite rings too (I’m not sure what your budget is, but they are really affordable). http://www.ice.com/category/?keywords=Search&o=Most+Popular&s=24&n=1&f=STONE:Morganite

@RadiantRed: The scale will depend on your finger size, but it’s gonna be big. My center stone is only slightly bigger than that (I think 16x14mm) and on my small hands, it’s almost knuckle to knuckle. The oval cut will help a bit since it will taper at the edges, but you’re still talking serious finger real estate. Personally, I love the look, but that’s a personal preference.

depending on your finger size 3cts may be large. the first morganite i had tried on was about 4 and it looked very costume-ish. the ring your looking at is 5+.

I was searching for a pink morganite for my mom last Christmas, couldn’t find a single one from a reputable jeweler, finally the guy I used for appraisals told me the reason is because it loses it’s color….maybe they’ve got that sorted out now, but that’s something that would make me really sad if it happened.

I’m not sure if you’ve resolved your question yet or not, but just in case, I thought you might find this chart helpful. It’s a carat-weight-to-mm-measurement chart. http://pics.bluenile.com/assets/chrome/pdf/diamond_carat_size_0810.pdf It only goes up to 5 carats, though, and it looks like your stone may be larger than that! It might be able to give you an idea of how large the stone will look, though.

My morganite engagement ring is 9.5mm x 9.5 mm, size 8 ring. “pillow cut” by Zava. http://www.zavagems.com/
I think you have to go through a jeweler to get one of his cut gems – but they have a link on that page to find one.
This is what that size looks like (w my wedding ring):

This one is from the same site… the stone is 7×7 which is approx the same size as a 1.60-1.70 carat diamond.

Also, Blue Nile has a 30 day return policy if you try one and don’t like it.

i purchased my morganite from reeds.com and they were amazing.
it is a 9X7 mm center stone on a size 5 finger.
the blue nile chart shows it between 1.5 and 2 carats
the sun washed the stone out.
this is it without the sun
