(Closed) Mori Lee sizing

I’m kind of in a weird position. I went to a bridal shop and tried on my dream dress in a size 10 (Mori Lee). It was a bit tight, but it did fit! It actually looked really nice. I’m planning on losing weight and it wouldn’t take that much for that one to fit just right (plus I have a lot of time before the wedding). The consultant advised I’d get the 10 anyway.

I had gone to another salon and tried a couple of Mori Lee dresses, not sure which sizes (except for a 16 which was HUGE), and the consultant advised I was probably a 12.

The salons here crazy expensive (I’m outside the US), so I’m thinking about ordering it online (I can have it shipped). I checked the size charts from a couple of sites, and measured myself, and I should be a 12, even 14! I’m small chested, but big around the hips (pear shaped). My regular clothes right now are size 12 or so. The dress is an A-line, so the hips aren’t a big problem, but the waist is off about 4 inches!

The second salon is bringing in my second option dress soon, it’s a size 10. Hopefully that will help determine what size will work.

It’d weird if I needed to size down. :p But in the end if I’m still not 100% sure I’d go with a 12 I guess. I’d rather have it altered than not fit in it at all!

I have a Mori Lee too.  I’m a size 12/14 and got a size 16. I’m sort of hourglass shaped tho… wide shoulders/big boobs/WIDE hips.  It fits well… actually a little large in the chest (and I’m still breastfeeding, so it’s not like they’re smaller than normal).

I don’t know about your style, but mine has a corset back so I think that helps a lot with sizing, you can get bigger or smaller within an size or two without worrying.

I found that Mori Lee actually runs a little big, maybe only 1-2 sizes larger than your American street size. The bridal consultant convinced me to order a size 4 because my hip measurement was in-between the size 2 and size 4, while the rest of my measurements were a 0-2. When the dress came, I found it to be quite large, even in the hips – I definitely would have been able to fit into a 2 comfortably, and there would be enough fabric to expand any measurements by an inch or so. Mine is not a corset back so I’ve got lots of tailoring to pay for. So maybe if you’re in between sizes, size down? (note: I am normally street size 00 with an athletic “pear” figure: tiny top and waist, larger hips)

Also, for anyone who is thinking of ordering the extended length gown… make sure you’re REALLY tall! I ordered it on the recommendation of the consultant, who said that sometimes the smaller size dresses run a little bit shorter than the 12-14’s they have to try on in the store. I’m 5’8”, and in 4.5 inch heels, I’ve still got a good 2-3 inches of hem on the ground!!!!
