Hello! Im super new to this website ! I just got engaged on August 8, 2009 and we are planning our wedding for July 17, 2010! OMG HOW EXCITING! It makes me smile just saying the wedding date LOL
Anyways, I live in Plattsburgh, NY and there is NOTHING here for decor vendors… For my rehearsal dinner and pre-wedding party I would like to set up a moroccan themed tent and style decor in my parents backyard ( a lot of space) But cant figure out how to make it a DIY event…when Ill be super busy with other wedding details….
Any ideas or help?

Congrats on the engagement! that inspiration picture is amazing.
for a start, perhaps come up with a budget and work from there?
i think tents like those don’t exactly come cheap.
you can get fabrics in those rich colors/textures pretty cheaply from wholesale places, i assume, while you can buy Moroccan lamps as nice centerpieces from ebay, or even amazon.com (pricey shipping though).
get throw cushions like those above? perhaps find a friend who can help sew the covers, and add embellishments?
lots of ideas out there. just figure out your budget first, then google around and i’m sure you’ll find a ton of inspiration!

congrats on your engagement!!! Do you parents have any types of structures outside like a gazebo or arbor already? You may be able to rent several small tents and drape the fabrics… I also think DIY hanging votive candle holders would be awesome (either from led or regular glass) there are plenty of tutorials on how to do them. You could also use varying colored luminaries as a pathway throughout different sections (for punches etc)… I agree with the pp budget always comes first and then the fun part!!! I also agree with her on the throw pillows. Your wedding is far enough in advance that you can begin making your own pillows and catching sales on colorful items this winter. I would also check out the fabric store because a sari would definitely give that moroccan feel.

This wedding style sounds just beautiful! What a picture! I like Crebre80’s suggestions here!
How about something like this hanging from the ceilings? A different type of lighted lantern? From lunabazaar.com!
and some other types of lanterns like these? Btw, these are meant to be hung! How lovely would these be hanging on hooks lighting up your aisle?

Have you checked out Ikea? I think a lot of the stuff you posted could be done inexpensively with sutff from Ikea (like the lanterns and furniture) and fabric. It’s absolutely beautiful! Good luck!
