Our family doesn’t really purchase gifts anymore [which makes me sad because gift giving is so lovely], my one of my favorite gifts I’ve gotten was from my Nannie [grandmother] which was a pink fuzzy blanket. I love pink and I LOVE blankets, I’ve had it since I was 16 [10 years!] and it’s still in great shape.

Kind of lame, but it was one of the only useful gifts she’d ever gotten me.. she was known for picking random gifts… socks.. gift sets… bath sets in scents people didn’t like [she got me about 5 differant lavander gift sets and I HATE lavander, it gives me a headache instantly].

Fi & I don’t really exchange gifts, per say.. we just give each other the go ahead and get whatever item we’ve been eyeballing [for me it was a tablet, for him it was a a bunch of new 360 games].

We exchange cards like that for birthdays and our anniversary! So sweet!

Our first Christmas, my FH bought me a Build-A-Bear. He named her my favorite name (which I’ll probably never use because this first name and FH’s last name is an actress’s full name), dressed her as a ballerina (I was a dancer most of my life), and made her “birthday” our anniversary. It was so thoughtful!

@jenilynevette:  I know what you mean about a “lame gift” being your favorite. I have had the same teddy bear since I was able to remember and it is probably my most cherished possession.

I love gifts that have a ton of thought…but haven’t really received one like that in a long, long time. Mostly I like giving ones I put a lot of effort into and know the person will love. For instance, my husband kept insisting we buy a tablet so we can watch movies in bed without ruining out laptops. So I put a ton of time into researching and pricing tablets to buy him the perfect one for his birthday. It was nice because he would never have spent that much on himself, and really felt pampered.

I was hoping that my husband would get me a card since my present from him is still being shipped, but he just apologized that it wasn’t here yet and moved on. I would have also really liked a first married christmas ornament. No one really acknowledged that, including him. Anyways, my most amazing Christmas gift ever is still my Keurig. I love it to pieces, for a material item.

I was actually just talking about the best gift I ever gave! It was for my best friend’s birthday (Feb 15) freshman year of high school. She had a huge crush in this senior who was in choir. That year the chour did singing Valentines. I bought a singing telegram and told them that I didn’t care which song, but it had to be this guy. She was in heaven.
