Yeah, I have no idea. I’m trying to find high heels (around 4.5 inches?) for the wedding. I’m on Zappos and there are so many choices! I’d like to keep the price reasonable – maybe under $100? Shoes that can potentially be comfortable for 4 hours or so?

No way are 4.5″ heels going to be comfortable, not even for 5 minutes! I’d go 2.5 or 3 inches max.
Edited to add: make sure you get yourself some of those gel insoles for the balls of the feet. Those are where all of your weight will end up being concentrated when you wear heels.

@AmeliaBedelia: There’s nothing comfortable about 4.5 inch heels. Several coworkers and I wear 3.5 inch heels and joke that they’re our “sitting shoes”. If you find a pair be sure to let me know!

If you want 4.5 inches, get a 3/4 or 1 inch platform. I wore the Nina Electras all day and night for 6-7 hours with no problems. It’s pretty hit or miss with Nina. I have another pair thats only 3.5 inches, and I couldnt keep it on for more than 5 minutes.

@AmeliaBedelia: If they have a 1/2″ to 1″ platform on the front, 4.5″ can be relatively comfortable.

Vivienne Westwood shoes have fairly high heels and are pretty comfortable (though I consider them a ‘2 hour shoe’), but they can be pricey. I got myself some Dansko 2.5″ heels because I can actually wear them all day!

My shoes were 4.5″ with a 1″ platform. The platform really does help enormously — I wore them all day and danced for hours, and I hardly even noticed them! I think besides the height, you need to make sure they’re wide enough for you — I find that shoes that are too narrow seem to hurt more than shoes that are high.

maybe I’m alone in this, but my “comfy” shoes are a 3.5″ heel (on the flip side, it hurts to wear flats). via spigas are amazing but they can be pretty pricy. my other current favorite is franco sarto but they can be hit or miss. i have a pair of maddens with a 5″ heel that are pretty comfy (wore them for 4 hours on nye) and a pair of 4.5″ carlos santana peeptoes that are great.
hope this helps!

I have a pair of Steve Madden pumps that are 4.5″+ with no platform and they’re more comfortable than a lot of my other pumps with platforms, though as a general rule a platform helps. I also love Jessica Simpson’s shoes, they’re relatively comfortable. Nine West makes some comfortable heels too.
ETA: Most of my heels are 4″-5″+ so I have experience walking and standing in them, it’ll suck more if you’re not used to heels.

Dansko actually makes some heels that are comfortable. Check it out, they have a dressier line… they are the best for your feet that I have found.

I just got my Angela Nuran Starlettas in the mail today! They are amazing, they are based on the ballroom dancing shoe but designed with weddings in mind! They have been talked about on the bee before. The starlettas are 4 1/4 with a one inch platform, and from what I can tell, they are so comfortable. I’ve talked to other girls who wore them on their wedding day and they said they were pain free for 12 hours. The “toe” area is adjustable so it can fit narrow and wide feet and they come with ankle straps and ribbon laces. The problem is, they are pricey….starlettas are usually 300 or more. But, I got mine through a holiday special and they were half off. It was miracleweddingsbyrosie that I got them through and she posted her special in the classified section about a month ago. You can also find some sizes/colors on recycledbride (I also bought a pair for just dancing through them-they were only 2 1/2 & black but got them for 30 bucks!). Anyway, it took me a few months of searching, but I finally found what I wanted for the price I wanted …and from what I can tell they are going to be so worth it! Good luck!

I am going with ballroom dance shoes. 2.5-3” max. They are built for comfort and wear and they are super cute and come in all sorts of colors and REALLY reasonable prices!! Also you can get them closed toe, open toe, all kinds of things!

I wore my 4 inch menburs all night at my wedding. They had a good platform, so my foot wasn’t super arched. I wear heels a lot, though, so it wasn’t too tough for me. I wore them around the house a lot before the wedding, with socks, to break them in a little.
