ethereal594 : Lol, I do like manga/anime, but I’m not sure if I want my e-ring to look like something that was made by bandai. Haha. But yea, it was one of those comments where it can certainly mean different things. For example, if it was meant to reference something like this, I would be stoked:
But then again, I have a morganite, totally not comparable to a silver millennium crystal.

I can’t remember ever having anyone say anything flat out negative about any of my erings (to me anyway), but I did get my first “What does your husband do?” *reply given* “Oh, he must REALLY love you!”
At worst, it was just mildly irritating. One, the idea that the size of a ring has anything to do with the love behind it is just absurd, two, I currently make more than my husband so it irritates me when people assume he’s the one forking over the cash for things, and three, I purchased my last three ring additions, with his blessing, but I bought them.
Took about two and a half years after getting my OEC halo for that to happen though.

Went to a new manicurist and she said “Small ring, but nice sparkle. Good quality better.” .50 F VS1 Ideal round diamond in a Tacori setting.

The rudest and most heart breaking comment came from my grandma. She basically implied that my was a fake because it is moissanite and thaT my husband cheaped out. Now she’s always complimenting how beautiful my ring is so, I forgive her silly comment.

So it’s not necessarily rude but it was weird and felt like I had to defend my ring. A co-worker asked me if I was engaged and then if it was real…then he decided FH is either a doctor, pro athlete, or Kanye West… And its only 1.35 ct.

I’ve had from an aunt: ‘I wonder if you still would have said yes if it was a smaller diamond…’ That was it, no congratulations 😳

Can’t believe some of these stories. I’m engaged 6 months and most of the comments about my ring have been really positive. BUT there is always one. My e-ring was bought in an antique shop and a neighbour remarked to my Mom that she hoped I hadn’t been given a “second hand ring”!! Made by blood boil
And then came up to me a few days later fawning over me and the ring! Uuuuggggghhhhhh

Just one. And it wasn’t really a burn, just *kind of* a burn. A friend who is waiting to get engaged had commented how much she likes my ring before. Then on day she asked to look at it closely and she said “Wow. It’s really tall, I didn’t realize it sticks up so high. I don’t like tall rings”
I’m not sure if that was her way of taking back her original praise… but her tone was not friendly. It was pretty mean girls/ catty and out of no where. It was kind of weird. Still, not as bad as some stuff I’ve heard of people saying.

Where do I start?!
Family Member: So where’s the ring?…Obviously that isn’t a diamond. You guys couldn’t afford that.
My BFF Colleague: How much did he spend? (No ‘congratulations’ or anything! Just straight in with the financials)
Another Colleague: Oh, well that’s very…unusual. I guess if you like it though?

Similar to the “Oh, someone must really love you” line, I had just gotten engaged moments before and these elderly neighbors came outside to see what’s all the fuss was about (FI is a firefighter and surprised me with the entire firehouse crew on the truck – lights and sirens going – in front of our house). I don’t blame them for being curious to see if anything was wrong…but when the woman saw my right she said “Wow! Firefighters are obviously overpaid!”
