@Ataraxia:  The -ayden names are insane popular here, I know SO MANY girls (often teenage mothers, whatever that says) over the past few years whose children are ALL Jayden/Kayden and I just feel sorry for their schoolteachers!

Alot of my friends from ages 19-23 who have had kids all have ayden names, too! Brayden, Aiden, Jayden.. lol

I feel it is better to name a child with a “grown up” name and give them a cute nickname as a child, rather than give them a cute name that sounds retarded as an adult and leaves them no room for adjustment.

I am a 80’s baby too and while the Jennifers, Ashleys, Jessicas, Brittany’s, Matt’s, Chris, Mikes, Jasons and Jordans were popular, at least they are suitable adult names.

I find this thread interesting, particularly the people worried about “frou-frou” names. I understand the concern but I can asure you the person behind the name does help counteract some of the stigma. I speak from experience, I have a very ditzy-sweet valley high-preppy name (think names along the lines of Chip, Buffy, Skip, etc) and I have not been held back in my career. Having said that, I’ve never been overly fond of my name and I actually hated it during my teens and early twenties. I guess the take away lesson is that people can overcome their “terrible” names Tongue Out

I’m a teacher, so I get a lot of weird names, too.

My class this year has THREE Jasmin’s. Jasmin/Jasmine/Jasmyn. Sigh.

I feel bad for my brother. He was born in ’94 and is named Braden. At the time it was nice, a little unique, and nice.

Now there are 22095804760348 little -ayden’s running around.

I dislike super-popular names. The Jennifers, Ashleys, Melissas, Tiffanys, Emilys (sorry to all of you named that, no offense) of my generation. I don’t want my kids to have 3 other ones in their class with the same name. Neither do I want them to be a wtf were the parents thinking name either!

Sadly, the only name DH and I can agree on right now for a girl is Emma. By the time I’ll have kids, she’ll be like the tail end of popular and sooooo overused. Sigh.

Haha, agreed.  I hate the name Amanda…I know some very nice women with that name, so I feel badly saying it….but I say to myself sometimes ‘who would ever name their child A-MAN-DUH???’  I also don’t like the name Tanya….name puts a bad taste in my mouth, I’ve never known a nice Tanya.

Iz sew speshul name spelling.  I hate my name because I am ALWAYS having to spell it and then it’s still wrong.  That’s plain mean to your kid.  Never mind adding random punctuation. DS6 has a classmate with a name similar to E*s’Telljah.  That’s not the poor kid but it’s a semi common name all kinds of messed up.

Failure of the POTUS test.  Fifi Fluffybritches Jones, President of the United States of America doesn’t exactly roll off your tounge.  Hannah Grace Jones, President… works.

In a similar fashion – Stripper/porn name.  Back to dear Fifi Fluffybritches.

I still say Apple is not a name for a child.
