My friend and I who are getting married 3 months apart are getting games to play (jenga, uno, cards) at all of our tables as neither of us are going to have traditional receptions.
We are also having a small ceremony (immediate family and close friends only) several hours before the reception, so we are having a after ceremony meal at my parents house.

I’m not sure how “original” this was, but for our guest book I made a shutterfly book with pictures of Fi and I growing up over the years. Everyone loved it, and it’s such a nice thing to have.
I also insisted that everyone write their speeches out beforehand and read them to our wedding planner. Because people had to plan out what to say, it actually made for some of the most awesome and unique wedding speeches, and everyone was laughing and crying during and complimenting them all night.

I’m a wedding photographer, so not much is origional to me anymore…haha. That being said, instead of a traditional guestbook or signed photo I designed an album using photos of us through the years – growing up, after we got together, with our friends doing our hobbies, and throughout our relationship. That was what our guests signed. They all LOVED it and I actually still look at it and read the comments. Our friends and family all found themselves throughout the book and signed next to their photos.

We had a small cake made for my mom’s birthday. We were married on 9.20 and her birthday was 9.19. Because of the Rehearsal Dinner and other last minute planning, we didn’t get to celebrate her birthday. So during the toasts, we did a toast to mom, sang her Happy Birthday, and brought her her own cake. 🙂

we are using an app called WedPics. Once the photos are added via the app the instantly become part of the slideshow. We will have a laptop hooked up to a projector and the slide show running throughout the night.

At my daughter’s wedding, the money was spent on a really great band. It had brass, great vocals and they could play anything. Four years later people are still talking about them.

our first dance was pretty special and unique. We have both been dancing/studying hula together since 2012 and performed one of our hulas for our first dance.

I love reading through all these replies! I don’t think much is truly original these days but we have some little touches planned which I don’t think our guests will have seen before:
We’re having a Destination Wedding in the Italian Lakes and my bridesmaids will be wearing the dress of their choice in shades of champagne or blush
I’ll be arriving at the outdoor ceremony with my dad by speedboat
We’re having a prosecco toast in the middle of the main town square
We’ve arranged a boat trip around the lake for all our guests before the reception
We’re not having any speeches and we’re having a dessert buffet instead of a wedding cake
Flip flop favours and retro sunglasses
Lots of Italian elements are going into the food, drink and decor for example lots of olive branches, Italian gelato, prosecco, limoncello, tiramisu, kegs of locally brewed beer and a ferrero rocher ‘mountain’ as they are made in the same region.
Live band will be mixing in some well known italian songs with the more international ones (last song of the night will be ‘that’s amore’)
