I was at a meeting with my boss and some Very Important People the other day, and we were walking out of a building and I tripped over nothing and fell on the sidewalk.

I could have died.

Oh Miss Hobbit, that’s totally one of my nightmares!  I’m not at all clumsy when I’m relaxed, but if I’m trying to impress someone, it is like my limbs turn to wood!  Poor you!

My most embarrassing (recent) moment also took place in an elevator! I need to state, first off, that our building elevator is super smooth – like can’t even tell that you’re moving smooth.  So, Fiance and I were in the elevator, on our way up to our apartment, and he starts like, sex-talking to me, which I don’t really like in public normally, but I was kind of into it this time, ’cause we were on an elevator travelling between floors.  So, he is saying all this dirty DIRTY stuff, like not loudly, but not whispering, either.

Suddenly, the door opens, we go to get off on our floor, and………..we’re still in the lobby, and this grumpy, older woman of our acquaintance is looking at us with this disgusted look on her face! We’ve been on the first floor this whole time!  Obviously talking loud enough for passer-bys to hear!  Fiance did NOT push the button.  We both thought the other did.

We had to ride up 15 floors with this woman giving us the side-eye while we made awkward conversation with each other.  So humiliating and soooo funny – I must have laughed for 10 minutes once we made it back to the apartment.

@MissHobbit: I’m with you. As we were leaving yesterday to come to a competition, I had to get to the side of my car to get my duffle bag out to load up to leave. The curb was covered in fresh snow…and who falls and slides under her car? This girl! Grr. At least my coat and my suit weren’t ruined, but wow, what a way to start a 5 hour trip. :-/

well… a couple nights ago i was out at dinner with my Fiance and his parents. It was really quiet in the restaurant and I burped… I mean REALLY burped. EVERYONE turned to look, people might have thought it was someone else if everyone at my table didn’t look at me and laugh. I turned red.

@MissHobbit:  You most definitely are not the only clumsy bee!  I am a total klutz.

We got around 16 inches of snow Sunday-Monday.  On Monday evening, I went out for dinner with Fiance, my brother, and his girlfriend.  On the way out of the restaurant, I slipped and totally flew through the air, bypassing 3 stairs, to land on my butt and right arm.  I still can hardly use my right arm, and it’s swollen between my elbow and wrist.  Luckily, I didn’t break anything….just lots of bruises!  I was so mortified and in so much pain, but didn’t want to cry….so I just tried to laugh it off.  Unfortunately, my ‘laugh’ came out as a semi-hysterical sob/laugh.  Oh geez!

I was at a baby shower talking with a newlywed named “Sarah” and she was recounting how she felt when she changed her name. She moved her maiden name to her middle name and took on her hubby’s last name, so she cut out her middle name. She said she was sad about it b/c she liked her middle name but didn’t want 4 names.

I said I was gonna do the same thing, but that I didn’t really care about my middle name so losing it wasn’t a big deal. She asked, “Oh, what’s your middle name?” Me, “Sarah”. We paused for a minute and then started cracking up! It just never occurred to me that my middle name is her first name. Haha. It was pretty funny tho.

Oh, I have an “I slipped and fell on the ice in front of other people” story too.  A few weeks ago, on our way back home, we stopped in New Jersey for the night and planned to go into Manhattan for the day.  We were walking to the bus stop and I stepped on a solid sheet of ice (it looked like water!) and went right down in the driveway of a big hotel.

Luckily I landed on the fattest part of my butt and bounced (one time I was grateful for the padding 🙂 and didn’t even have time to put out my arms to catch my fall.  It was really embarrassing and I just stuck one arm up and told my husband to help me up quick and I didn’t even look back-just pretended like nothing happened.  Oh, and I was carrying an open can of diet Pepsi at the time and somehow managed not to spill a drop. lol

@indyJEEP: Yeah. they were totally helpful. I still feel very self-conscious and as if I made a bad impression because of my inability to stand on my own two feed adequately. I feel as though I was on the top of my game during the entire meeting and that one moment ruined it all. Ah well, I would rather be known as competent and clumsy than elegant and an airhead.

@indyJEEP: Moot court competition. It’s a law school competition where you are basically arguing an issue that you’ve researched and written a brief on in font of the faux-Supreme Court. I’ve made it here safe and sound and my team goes in an hour, so then I’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the day (and hopefully keep my behind off the pavement). 🙂

@PutABirdOnIt: wow! Didn’t loose a drop of coke, that’s skill!

Totally not the subject but close enough: My dog is pretty clumsy and slipped on ice a couple weeks ago and he face-planted onto the cement and looked back at me and you could just tell he was *totally* embarrassed. I kinda felt bad for him.
