I totally haven’t caught up since the season premiere but I came here anyway to give your thread some love. Hooray! I hated Joan’s husband, it’ll make me more excited to watch (I always thought it was so strange that the rape happened and the show just kind of brushed over it, almost like “yeah, sometimes men raped their wives in the 60s with no consequences). I thought they were just going to get rid of him by killing him off in Vietnam, this was a more pleasant surprise.

I will try to watch today after work and post later.

I don’t know what to think about those sequences! I know he was not well, but I thought they were real and I did not question that behaviour from Don. I watched with Darling Husband, and he was yelling at the TV set! I told him not to be so worked up, that it’s not very different behaviour than what we’ve come to expect from him… and then that thing happened and he shoved her under the bed and we were both speechless.

I think that he was truly ashamed and surprised when she did not blame his cheating on Betty, the way he clearly had. The social atmosphere seemed very much to be that is the guy strayed, it was because the wife wasn’t doing enough or giving him a good home. Megan’s more young and modern though, and she doesn’t see things that way. I feel like when she called him out for his past behaviour, explained how it made her feel ashamed, that he suddenly could not lie to himself about how his past behaviour would affect someone he cared for and loved.

I also think that means he must not have loved Betty. That episode last week when he got so upset about her cancer scare, I was so mad at him for his overreaction. It seemed so selfish, like he was getting caught up in how it was going to affect him. I don’t know. We’ll see how it plays out! Not that I think they’ll reconcile or turn to each other for friendship, ahaha. I just love how I can trust the writers that they won’t just drop the whole thing.

I was only fooled for a bit with the Don scenes. I figured something had to be up, as Megan wasn’t there. Awesome intensity though. And very clear metaphors.

Joan was great. She’s better off, I think.

I LOVED Peggy haggling with Roger. I think that was my favorite scene in the episode. She’s come a long way 🙂

I’ve clearly thought too much about this! lol

What was up with Dawn leaving so early? I missed whatever was on her note.

I finally watched it! I’m liking the direction this season is taking. The past two seasons were painful to watch because I hated everyone and everything in the show.

I’m especially beginning to like Sally – the little girl is quite the actress and I like that she has a naievity to say/do/ponder things that other characters don’t in the show. And I’d like to slap Henry’s mother right across the face.

Also, I concur, I’m SO glad Joan ended things with her husband. I hated him since that rape scene. My husband and I would always watch and he always comments, “Why do they have the most seemingly functional relationship on the show, nevermind for the time he raped her.”

@GreenDream:  Her note basically thanked Peggy for letting her stay and she was sorry for putting her out. The significance of it was that she placed it on top of her purse, which Peggy had almost grabbed to take with her before going to bed as a sign of distrust (and Dawn totally noticed).

@kaylee26:  I agree Don is trying to be faithful, but I didn’t like Peggy in the episode.

She has become a totally selfish character, and I think her interactions with Dawn are representative of the fact that she is crossing over into jerk territory and is becoming just as bad as everyone else. Her asking about Dawn’s aspirations and if she thinks she acts like a man means she was just reflecting on where she came from and how people perceive her. I’ve always loved the aspect of her getting a big job in a male-dominated world, but frankly her head is becoming way too big.

Does anyone else read TomandLorenzo.com? They give the best analysis of the show. Seriously, they point out things I never saw the first or second time around. And they analyze the styles and costumes since they are a fashion blog.

My opinion was that it was a GREAT episode. And it revealed that Don had cheated on Megan. Because there was no way he slept with Andrea while married to Betty (the timelines of the Lincoln Center do not match up with their marriage).

@ohmybears48:  I loooooooooove TLo!!  When I read their recaps I almost feel ashamed I didn’t pick up on some things, they notice so much.  Love Mad Style, too.  I’m not sure that it shows Don cheated on Megan.. may be from when he was divorced?  But I’m still fuzzy on the timeline.

I did think it was awesome when Peggy haggled with Roger, and Joan kicked out her husband (Greg? or Kevin?  Is Kevin the baby’s name?).  Peggy was totally awkward with Dawn, but Peggy is awkward all the time, and I think it’s understandable for her to have so many insecurities as a woman in a male dominated industry (not to mention her only other female coworker in the same job description is married to her boss.. Megan may be clever but it’s very hard to think that she really struggled the way Peggy did).

@elysion:  The Lincoln Center was open AFTER Betty and Don got a divorce. It would be super new when Megan and Don went there.
