Just tell the aunt there was a miscommunication and ask her for the topper back, any reasonable person would give it back to the bride. Maybe your mom really did think you didn’t want it since you were travelling out of state and thought better someone else enjoy it than have it go to waste. Not everyone attaches the same importance to the same things. FWIW if someone else wants to have my cake topper they can have it, ditto decorations & anything else, I’ll treasure the photos of course but cake toppers et al would likely just end up in a box in storage. However, it is important to you – just as something important to me might be no biggie to you- so your aunt should give it back to you. But I’d just go on the assumption that your mom did it with no ill intention, otherwise it will just cause drama and bad feeling and side track the issue of you getting your cake topper back.

2ndtolol:   I’d be pissed!  Seriously?  I wonder if people even think these days.

Who would want to take your topper???  I would ask for that back for sure.

As for the cake, seriously, I would ask your mom politely to buy another cake for you.  not a 3 tier cake, but a small round,  I just don’t understand people.  Wedding cakes are so expensive.  Why would she assume that you would want her to give it away?  It wasn’t your mother’s to give away!  Why did she not talk to you before doing that?  I’m with you!  Pissed!

My remaining cake and desserts were sent home with my dad.  He’s a huge sweets person.  He didn’t even touch it.  He called me and wanted to know what I wanted to do with it.  And I came and picked it up.  I told him to pick some for himself and I took the rest.

I can picture my own mom doing something like that. She loves giving! I would explain the situation to your aunt to see if you can get the topper back. I think this issue is a good excuse to buy yourself more of that delicious cake!

Hey Aunt XYZ can we please have the cake topper back? Mom gave it away without asking. Who knows what she was thinking? Thanks!

Its not that hard.

This isn’t something worth your time/energy. We threw out our top tier after a few weeks because it already looked gross after being in the freezer. We tried some of the freezer cake and it was just bad.

Not to mention…it’s cake. You can buy more.
