My fiance and I are wracking our brains lately about which song to choose for a mother-groom dance.
(Side note: we aren’t doing a father-bride dance as my father passed away 10 years ago. No dollar dance, either. Just the mother-groom dance!)
We have discussed asking my FMIL what would be her preference for a song, but we decided we would like to surprise her with something to make her laugh and hopefully avoid any tears.
Anyone out there have any slightly offbeat and not overly sappy recommendations? Just a heads up, I’ve done plenty of Google searches for ideas and fiance and I are both hesitant to pick any song that is (A) modern country or (B) very predictable and over-the-top cheese. For example, Wind Beneath My Wings is a “no.”
@Narwhal: Is your mom still around? If so, no reason you can’t do a mother-daughter dance! I did at my wedding, even though my dad is still alive. I did the father-daughter dance, then DH did mother-son dance, and then I invited my mom to the dancer floor for a surprise dance with me, because I wanted to give her a special moment since I know she felt left out of the ceremony (no role for bride’s mother, only father)
@ChemistryBride: I’ve thought about that, too. I’m worried my mom might feel a little left out, especially if his mom is getting a special dance. However, I’m also worried that my mom and I dancing together would be pretty awkward not only for us but also to watch since we aren’t very close and have never danced together in my life! Maybe I’ll decide something spur of the moment.
@Narwhal: I don’t think my mom and I have ever danced before, but we are close. However I had never danced with my dad before (within memory) so I think that was actually more weird for me! I cried during my dance with my mom, but didn’t for my dad lol.
