This is a trial run for the birth and for naviagting a whole host of other situations with you as the mother of this child and her as the grandmother. If this is your first baby, your feelings and needs might be more restrictive than with future pregnancies. Maybe not. You also might tend to be more private in general about these kinds of things.

I would not advocate lying about who can be in the room. You are about to be a mother and lots of people will have all kinds of opinions about what you should and shouldn’t do in that. The bottom line is that you get to say what you want and need and to expect for that to be respected by your partner and by anyone else in his family or yours.

My guy and I weren’t really concerned about health related things but the scan where we found out we were having a son was very sweet and intimate and it would not have been the same if anyone else was in the room.

Your Mother-In-Law had her kid(s) and her experience. This is your experience and, again, you get to say what you want and to expect to have it honored.
