- Wedding: June 2011
I am in between a rock and a hard place right now. My Mother In Law has not been involved in any part of the Wedding Planing. I understand her distance from the planning process. She and my Fiance’s Father are were going through a very difficult divorce after 28 years of marriage. We have al been very understanding…I can’t imagine going through a divorce while planning a Wedding! To make matters worse….the divorce was finalized last week…..on Valentine’s Day of all days :/
Last Saturday I went in to go over a few things with my Dress designer and to start planning my daughter (our flower girl) dress. I wrote my Future Mother In Law to see how she is and asked if she would like to see a picture of my dress. Now I know that her style is VERY different! She hates BIG, POOFY dresses…the cupcake style. I personally have always dreamed of my wedding dress. I have sketches going back to when I was 5 al the way up until last year and it is all the same….a ball gown with a low back, fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline. It is excatly like the dress I found!
My Mother In Law finally responded and expressed how excited she is to see a picture! I emailed her 2 shots. I explained that there is a lot of extra material on the sample dress in the picture. The designer had added a bunch of material for a photoshoot that the dress was used in. I knew that my Future Mother In Law would freak when she saw how large it is.
I was half right. She LOVED the bodice and the neckline that we are changing it to. She said it looked perfect on me and showed my body beautifully. This made me very very happy! However……when it came to the skirt she said it ” looks too DISNEY….that there is too much dress and too much material….that I need to have a skirt that shows me” while I agree that there is too much material….I fear that she will be unhappy with anything unless it is flat or mermaid style.
Do I compromise my dream dress to make her happy or do I risk offending her to keep my dream? She is a very nice woman but very opinionated and I fear she may hold it against me.
Now in this last picture the dress looks HUGE! I know….there were literally an extra 8-12 layers added for a photo shoot. My dress will not be so big. She makes the dress around my body…layer by layer. I promise it won’t be so big!
