My mom got her dress at a bridal shop, but I would check bloomingdales and nordstrom

This might sound weird, but you should check out Macy’s or JCPenney. My mom got a beautiful dress there because we had the same problem of other dresses looking so grandmotherly. My friend’s mom also got her dress at Macy’s. It was knee-length, very age-appropriate without being too matronly or too young.

@laurendani:  I’ve seen some really nice ones at Nordstrom when I was helping my mom look for a dress.  Also, one of my mom’s friends didn’t want a “matronly” dress for her daughter’s wedding, so she actually got a bridesmaid dress and it worked great!
