1. we’re getting married in sept. my mom still doesn’t have her dress. what would be an appropriate deadline of sorts… or when did everyone else get their mother-of-the-bride dress?
2. we’re having a really hard time finding a dress that my mom likes. she’s looking for a long evening-gown-ish dress or a fancy suit-type dress. we’ve tried everything i can think of. nordstrom, macys, dillards, loehmans.
she liked this one from watters:
but there’s no store in California that carries this line so she can’t try it on.

I’m not sure that you need to give your mom a "deadline." September is over 5 months away! My mom just got her dress for my July wedding. It’s also from Watters, I believe, and she just ordered it online in her size. She loves it! But, if your mom does the same and doesn’t love it, you can just return it and try again. Or, maybe order a couple styles and plan to only keep her favorite?

My mom still doesn’t have her dress for our July 12th wedding (neither does my sister, the MOH). Future Mother-In-Law got hers last month. I don’t know what to tell you. I figure that my mom has good taste, she’s going to show up in something appropriate, she knows what colors are acceptable, and I have bigger things to worry about. So basically I am ignoring the issue. It will get solved on its own, unlike about twenty other things I have to worry about!

lord & taylor has this one – different shoes and jewelry would totally change the look of it i think no?

crickett, i was under the impression that you couldn’t order directly from watters online… is this not true?

tadashi, justin alexander couture, st. john and oscar de la renta are all good pics for mob evening gowns.

anti-zilla, thanks for the pics. there are a couple on the lord and taylor website that are possibilities.

Re: your timeline concerns, are there any dresses she could buy off the rack as a backup dress and then return it in the next month or two if she finds something that she likes better? That might make you a bit more comfortable and still give her time to look for things she likes better.
My wedding is in July and the mothers have both picked their dresses within the past few weeks but they could have gone a bit longer without selecting something. We saw good options at Nordstrom, Von Maur, Macy’s. I also found a few references to good dresses online at Talbot’s but haven’t seen much when I’ve looked there.
