Since I’m not super close to my father, I would like to dance with my mother at the reception. But I need some good song ideas. The only one I can think of so far is “Mama” by Boys II Men.
Thanks in advance!

A popular one on the Bee is ‘Mama’s Song’ by Carrie Underwood. My mom and I will be dancing to ‘Somebody’s Hero’ by Jamie O’Neal. I love it and it just suits us well.

@indibee: I love “Somebodys Hero”!
My dad is pretty shy and would prefer to not do a father/daughter dance so I’m thinking about dancing with my mom instead. I’m an emotional train wreck so I know if we choose a sappy song, I’ll be “ugly crying” the entire time. Thats why we’re leaning towards dancing to a song that special to us. I doubt anyone knows it but its by Barbara Streisand and its called “A kid again/I’m five”. My mom and I used to sing it all the time when I was little and every once in a while we still break out into our own rendition (like last week at dinner, lol). I’m still not sure how we’ll actually dance to it since it has kind of an awkward beat but we’ll figure something out. If all else fails, we’ll karaoke (yep, were having karaoke at our wedding) to it together. Either way, I think it will be a blast!
Do you have any songs that are meaningful to you, even if they’re not a typical parent dance/weddingish song?

I chose to do a father/daughter and mother/daughter combo. The song I chose was “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler. I think that the lyrics are absolutely beautiful and convey our feelings for eachother best. I love my Mom and Dad, but I’m especially close to my Mom and she is “My Hero”!
Another great one that I just heard today for the first time is “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood. Very sweet and lovely lyrics.

Also, depending on your type of music (and your relationship with your father, since the lyrics reference dads every-once-in-a-while) Taylor Swift’s ‘Best Day’ is pretty cute. My sister sang it at graduation for my mom (with some ‘fathers’ changed to ‘mothers’ to suit our family better) and it was a cry-fest for everyone there. Haha.
