Agreed – a ceremony reading, or a toast at the reception?  And obviously the mother-son dance.  

Can you involve her more in planning / DIY?  Asking her opinion on the seating chart, music, etc?

In general, without knowing the situation at all, I’d say your Future Mother-In-Law needs to chillax.  A wedding is about the couple getting married, not the mother of one of them….

@MrsS_to_be:  Would she be interested in witnessing your marriage on paper (i.e. signing the marriage certificate)? She may find some appeal in being entrusted with something so ‘permanent’/’set in stone’, so to speak.
